I have enjoyed reading Tom Doak's book as I'm sure many here have also.  Will there be new editions with more capsule reviews?  Has anyone heard?

I believe he has said there wouldn't be (I just got the original in the mail yesterday along with Rough Meditations.  Needless to say, I was up late last night).  His next book is on the making of Pacific Dunes.

wish he was) then maybe golfclubatlas.com should produce
one.

I think the brothers Morrissett should be more than proud of their course profiles, opinion pieces & discussion groups & be content to leave it at that. :)

This isn't published?  This site probably gets more exposure than a book that regular Joe's wouldn't touch because they've never heard of GCA.com.  And they've already garnered a decent amount of money... from our donations.  :)

I do keep the text for "The Confidential Guide" up to date on my latest travels.  Unfortunately for my writing career, I'm busy enough with architecture that I don't get around to see other courses like I used to ... and with all the new courses which have been built over the past ten years, I feel like I'm further behind on seeing all the best courses than I was when the book was published.

I don't know if I'll ever do anything with the updates or not.  It probably behooves my relations with other architects not to.  And I'm not sure what, if anything, I really have to gain at this point.  The original book still covers most of the bases.

Tom, we are all better off with you working and not writing, but one can always hope. Maybe the middle ground would allow you to publish and/or write an article for a major publication that focuses on the special courses both new and old that The Confidential Guide missed, might sell a lot of mags and keep the other archies off your back.

Look forward to your book on Pac Dunes.

Just walked the course at Essex to check out the recent tree removal efforts!
I believe the course, with the addition of the new #13 will be play even better next year. Now all we need is less rain this summer to get the course playing hard and fast.
Let my know next time you're in town... would enjoy getting a group of us together for a round (Baker, Burrows, etc..)

Tom, the attorney in me has an idea. Sell a pocket part every few years updating your opinions on courses you had already reviewed and original thoughts on new courses.

Great idea.  The update could be set up in Word and distributed through GCA for a nominal download fee.

It would be a breeze.  We could work through the copyright issues with Tom's original publisher.  Or do the update in a way that avoids them altogether.  No capital outlays.  No messy agent commissions.  No book signings at Barnes & Nobles.

I would like to see you update the Confidential Guide.......maybe twenty years from now.  In the meantime, I'd rather see a few more efforts like Pacific Dunes.
