James

It's The Lakes #8 and it's a much better course now than whenever I played it before.

I thought this was a one photo thread?

HEY BRETT,

Sorry if I disturbed the balance of the universe.  I looked at the title "Pictures" and then skipped straight to the end to add my contributions.  If this disqualifies me from the prize, so be it.

The famous Lob wedge over the cactus in the bunker shot...

Jud:

You can try the lob wedge over the cactus, or you can play as close as you dare to either side of the cactus, and try to make the putt.  What's the problem?

And P.S. -- what do you really think are your odds of actually getting up and down going over the cactus, vs. the risk involved in trying to do it?

Tom,

I thought this was one of those shots you'd perfected as it shows up more than once...I've got a bunch of pix that I'll throw up once George is finished with the Diamante tour...and I'll bet noone at Augusta has ever been offered fresh Yellowtail sashimi by another member who had literally just hauled it in himself an hour previously.... ;)

Barnbougle #8.  The rise and fall in the ground is much greater than apparent in the picture, especially the approach to the green from the lower fairway.  It is a par 4 and a bit (there is only one par 5 on the nine, this is the next longest hole).  I like your choice Pete, but there are a lot of people who don't seem to 'get' this hole.  Perhaps they just like the other holes more.

Pete,

Don't get them started about the 8th at Barnbougle.
I really enjoy playing it - it may be the most difficult par four in the country - but some think it is a bad hole.
I don't understand their rationale - a bad layup shot seems to be the biggest problem for the detractors.

Actually Mike, although it might be the prettiest golf picture I took during the year, but it does little justice in explaining what the hole is about. I suspect I took it from the ladies tee while the miisses was teeing off. It doesn't really portray the dramatic difference in the height of the upper and lower fairways. Nor does it show that the bank leading to the green is covered in native, dissallowing a shot run up the hill. It's surely a hole that requires two really fine shots for a chance at birdie; but does give the opportunity to make a "US Open par" with a tee shot to the lower fairway, a hybrid layup and a very accurate wedge. I look forward to tackling it again some time in the very near future.
