First of all, Merry Christmas to everyone.  Second, I was just getting very excited about the prospect of heading down to South Carolina with my family in a couple of days, where I aim to play golf every day until I head back to school on the 9th.  Aside from a bunch of rounds at Pawleys Plantation, I'm hoping to visit a couple Myrtle Beach-area courses I've not yet made it to (maybe the Fazio course at Barefoot and possibly Bulls Bay with my dad), and also a couple I have played, but not in a while (e.g. Caledonia and Heathlands).

Anyone else have some long-awaited golf trips coming up?  If any GCAers are going to be in the Grand Strand-type area in the nearish term, perhaps I'll see you out there!

Cheers and, again, Merry Christmas!

Tim-I don`t understand leaving the Nutmeg state when you can get it around at Shenecossett in ever changing conditions. I guess if you like warmth and abundant sunshine South Carolina is O.K. ;D

Jen and I are driving down to Hilton Head (we've never been there) where I'm playing Harbour Town and Dye's re-do of Heron Point.

Since we're driving we may try to play Wilmington Muni on the drive home New Year's Day, all weather dependent, of course.

Tim--

Amen to Shennecossett.  I played it a week ago with my best high school friend and had a blast.  (Fenwick Golf Course, the quaintest little nine-holer you ever did see, is also a good option down that way, incidentally.)  I'm just going to SC to see what these "short-sleeved" golf shirts are all about, as I've had very little recent experience with them!

I'm going to brave the conditions and head to Bandon from Dec 27, 28 and 29th.  The prices are just too good this time of year and so what if it rains.

I to Breckenridge for 11 days of skiing with my best friend, his two boys, and a buddy who owns the slope side condo where we are staying.

I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

My first trip to south florida is coming up very soon.  The wife and I will hopefully get to experience some warmer weather and non frozen greens.  Typical for me the trip involves lots of driving all over Florida and 36 holes a day.

I'm going nowhere over the next two months that involves golf. So my game is officially in hibernation.

There is a good chance though that I might be heading to Seattle in March where I hope to get in a round or two at Chambers Bay.

I just got back from a week in Phoenix, where I played four times.

Am semi-optimistic that I'll make a return visit in February or March. But nothing is in stone yet.

Played Vista Verde yesterday morning, only to get on a plane and come back to Chicago last evening  :(. Off to Dallas to see Coach Fitz and his purple clad denizens try to win a bowl game for the first time in forever. Looks like TPC Las Colinas on Thursday and Cowboys on Friday. Advanced forecast for TX looks good. Go Cats!

Oh wait, I wasn't invited. So, + 0.

You weren't invited?

C'mon down!!!

Don't buy into his whining, Mac.  He was invited, he just didn't care enough to remember the conversation.  Now he is stomping his feet like my 6 year old daughter.

The best part of it is that he can't even go because he will be in Disneyworld riding the teacups.

Ron Montesano & I will be playing in the "Snow Golf" Tournament at Delaware Park in Buffalo on January 16th.

http://bfloparks.blogspot.com/2010/12/snow-golf-tournament.html

It is a 3-club event and will using Pink Platform Tennis Balls.  I've never played this type of event before - any suggestions out there?  I suppose my club selection will depend on the weight & flight characteristics of platform tennis balls.  It may also depend on the snow conditions.  If there's an icy top layer, I may opt for the ground game, but soft snow may dictate an aerial strategy.

6 iron, 9 iron, putter...swing EASY or the tennis ball goes nowhere...

Isn't that true of a regular golf swing?  I'm not sure if the putter will help unless they've cleared the greens or at least packed them down.

What's the difference between a Platform Tennis Ball & Regular Tennis ball, in terms of size, weight, compression?  Is the Platform Ball solid (vs. Air pressure)?  It should be a neat new experience.

Near Term:  Lowcountry thaw-out in/around Hilton Head with a bunch of fellows on this board in mid-Jan.
Longer term:  A week-long New Zealand foray in middle February that will include 4-5 GC visits.

Balvenie was very clever in nabbing the double wood name for their malt.  Of course, there are many companies out there which do a wood finish in the same way using first a bourbon barrel (because these barrels are cheap due to not being able to be re-used for bourbon) then finished in a sherry barrel.  I need another myself!
