A good friend sent me this recently, and rather than post a new Christmas Poem this year, I thought I would share the original since I expect most have never seen it.
'Twas the Night Before Christmas (GCA.com style)
'Twas the night before Christmas, when I put in my call
Not a contributor was surfing, not even TEPaul;
The subjects were posted on the site with care
In hopes that Ben Crenshaw soon would be there.
The armchair architects were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of Sand Hills danced in their heads;
I guess they had finally all they could take,
It was time for golf's long winter break.
When on the sight there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my computer to see what was the matter
Up on the screen it appeared in a flash.
I hoped to respond before my computer did crash.
The debate had just started and they were ready to go
It began as a nice friendly discussion but it started to grow
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a post from Forrest Fezzler, and it was now clear.
But who should finally return from the can,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Ran.
More rapid than eagles his words they came,
And he responded, and challenged, under his own name.
"Now Bernstein! now, Cirba! now Naccarato and Geoffrey C.!
On, MacWood! on Doak! on, Brauer and JohnnyV!
To the mounding in Nantucket! to the contours of a green!
Now type away! type away! On all the subjects in between!
The postings came often and they came quick,
I had to get mine in, I knew that was the trick,
I must post a reply I knew what to do.
I tried and I tried but it wouldn't go through.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the site
Ran had told us to go to bed for the night.
As I closed my computer and was turning around,
A thought for a new posting came with a bound.
I sprang to my computer and gave my best,
And away my poem flew out from my chest.
But I hope you don't think me crazy, and place this out of sight
"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."
