The Dutcher Golf Course, Pawling NY, Est. 1890!!!
« on: December 21, 2010, 12:44:35 PM »
Is this the oldest largely intact golf course in the United States?

Thank you so much Geoff Childs for making me aware of this and for your fascinating personal story with it. There is a UTube presentation on this that Geoff sent me but as some know I'm semi-computer illiterate and don't know how to post it. Maybe you can find it by putting The Dutcher Golf Course, Pawling NY into Google.

Mr. B. Dutcher, a fascinating man of 19th century New York who apparently found the game at TOC with the Morrises in the early 1870s and eventually brought it home with him in 1885-1890. Another of those early "sportsmen/amateurs" with plenty of means apparently.

BTW, here is a fun commercial as well, the old timer brigade who approaches the guy is a good facsimile of the crowd on this site!
