Thank you gentlemen, the Thaw Out is set, as Joseph Fairey has rounded out our group.

Truly, this will be a Thaw Out...no Ice Bowl II after all! The forecast is SUNNY :D with highs in the 50's.

Golf starts Saturday morning at Old South, just before the bridge to HHI. JC's putting together some matches to keep things lively. Then Sunday's round is over towards Beaufort at Secession Golf Club.

I'll take 55 and sunny for golf in mid-January anytime.  I'm very happy to be pegging it tomorrow with some great guys (and 1 gal).
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Always liked Old South. A good buddy is one of the owner/investors. Last HH trip was Long Cove, May River and Old South and OS did not pale in comparison.

55 and sunny sounds better than it has been there. Have been hosting frined from HH the last 2 weeks and the weather reports have been frightful. Sending Kevin back today. The Czar from Sea Pines tomorrow.

ANTHONY GRAY - Head down to the British Open Pub and ask for Kevin... you'll be fast friends.

one of these days you guys will figure out that Cabo is not in the middle of Pakistan and great weather is a gurantee.

55 and sunny??? that is a very, very cold sunrise in Cabo.

I have to say I am quite jealous. Got 20 inches of snow on Wed and with the cold weather I don`t anticipate seeing dirt any time soon. Play well and enjoy.

My, how the good folks who post here continue to impress.

I am happy to report that a group of gentlemen from this website's discussion group got together and played as many as 45 holes down in South Carolina this past weekend and that a good time was had by all. Once again, a smattering of old friends and new showed up, played and talked a bunch of golf, drank plenty of beer and afterwards - as per usual when a group of GCAers get together - expressed their desire do it again, same time next year.

I'd like to give a huge thank you to Clyde Johnston and Jim Uremovich for hosting us at Old South on Saturday. The golf course was in excellent shape, was a ton of fun to play and both the staff and service were first rate. Clyde and Jim are, imo, two of the finest gents in the game.

Another huge thank you to the Dye Fan from Savann, Joel Zuckerman. He invited us out to Secession, ordered up chamber of commerce weather, great caddies, some damn fine seafood chowder - and did it all with a smile.

The only negative of the weekend that I can think of was, not surprisingly, JC Jones. :) Poor guy brought a stomach bug with him and after only a few holes on day 1, was forced to pack it in and head back to the house.

You were missed, Jason.

I took only a handful of pics, though I think others may have more to share at some point.

Many thanks to Brent, Mark, Ben, Ward, Mac, Jason, Anthony, Michael, Chuck, Jim, Clyde, Joel, Joe and Joseph for making the trip. It was a great time and I am certain that we'll try to do it again next January.

Cheers!

-------

Ben K. on the 10th at Old South

Mac P., myself, Clyde J. and Ward P. on the 18th at Secession

Che Wardo throws the best all-inclusive lowcountry golf party known to man. How does he do it? I am sworn to secrecy ;) ...

Eric,

You beat me to the punch!

I've played golf with a number of GCA'ers in the last couple of years, however this was my first "event."  I had a bit of trepidation showing up and meeting 11 or so strangers, however, that was quickly eased while chatting away the short frost delay at Old South.

I had a blast the entire way around meeting new faces, exchanging stories and trading barbs.

A special thanks to you Eric, who organized the trip, doing a fantastic job.  Also, to Joel who was the consummate host and all around good guy.

I look forward to my next trip with the group and meeting addtional members along the way.

P.S.  Mark Pritchett was the first name on the sign up list to borrow the hula girl slacks.  Please PM me if you wish to follow him!

Fellows,
It was a great weekend and thanks for including me in the event. And thanks to Eric for putting it all together and ordering up some good golf weather. We needed it!

Same time next year?

Yes--lots of fun over this past weekend, but owing to frost delays both days, perhap the title "thaw out" needs to be re-thought!

Enjoyed seeing some old chums like Eric, Mark, Mac, Clyde, Jason and Brent...and meeting new freinds like Ward, Ben, Joe and Joe Fairey, Mike C and Anthony....it was a very nice event, and I'm only sorry the party busted up so quickly after golf ended yesterday, though the weather is so crappy here today (cold rain) it was good we wrapped things up in the sunshine on Sunday.

Great trip...

Did someone mention hula pants?

But here is the real question, is it Ben K or Ryan Reynolds?

Maybe we will never know for sure.

As far as style, Mark P. had his Trues on and Brent (in the background) had the best hats by far.

And as always, we had some good golf courses to play.  Here are some shots at Old South, designed by our own Clyde Johnston...

First off the controversial tree, that I loved!!

A really fun double forced carry hole.  The picture is taken from about 150 yards out.

And if you want an Alps, you got an Alps...

Fun course!

And good ol' Secession...

The infamous 17th...

Eric Smith hitting out of one of my favorite bunkers on the course at the 16th green...

Good Stuff!!  Especially when you consider I went from this...

to this...which is in the rough (deep rough) on the 14th hole at Secession...in one simple road trip!

And yep, I put that approach shot on the green!!!  And yes, I three putted right after that.

Thanks all of you guys.  It was a great trip!!

That deep bunker left of 16 green at Secession strikes fear in the heart of many golfers....but Eric Smith isn't just anybody!  Look how high his ball is arcing out of that bunker...he could've cleared a sod wall 30 feet high from the looks of things...what flawless technique!
