It was a really good article. Tom is so spot-on about question #12. There is a lost generation for my age group (18-30) in all jobs, but personally that question hits home. I think there are many like me who had to find other work as it's not possible to chase the dream of building golf courses now.

Very good interview. I particularly like this comment:  "We hope to build 18 holes that give people lots of chances to hit a shot they will remember, instead of just going along making birdies and bogeys and adding up their score.  I don't really care what you shoot, as long as you have fun doing it.." For me fun is the essence of golf.

Did everyone notice that he complained that not enough people come to Traverse City to visit him and play Crystal Downs?

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Well, I plan on visiting him tonight and rewarding him for being a good boy and helping out the kids in Detroit.

After tonight, I will head to Brazil for some much needed R&R.

His idea for using derelict courses for juniors and beginners is a good one, just difficult to see how that could happen, in reality. Too bad Tom didn't put in a reference to building shorter courses. Otherwise, great questions and answers. Well done!

Adam:

Where there's a will, there's a way.  Lots of these derelict courses are being maintained a bit by the banks or their owners ... enough that they are playable.  So all it would take is a handful of volunteers or part-time staff to keep the doors open and collect a few bucks from the parents to break even.

The problem is, there is not much willpower to promote junior golf anymore.
