« on: December 14, 2010, 07:09:49 PM »
I was at an outing earlier this year and someone mentioned the number of "power logos"  I really liked that word....Now power logos come and go but seems a few stay...
Where have you seen the most power logos at one place and IYHO what is THE power logo of the year????
AND if you get into this then you definitely have some dork potential in case you don't already know that ;D

Ther have been some Power Logo death matches at the Renaissance Cup in past years ... not so much at Common Ground this year, though.

I can only imagine how many you would find at a Golf Digest Panelist event, or at a club event at Seminole.

The most I've ever seen at one place is at the Crump Cup.

Saw quite a few at the Curtis Cup this summer at Essex County Club. Very high concentration of Power Logo bucket hats. Does not work for everyone.

Please define "Power Logo."  What is the cut off?

Or is it, if you have to ask, you can't wear one, etc etc etc........

Doral is no longer a power logo unless you are in South America...

 8) the MACDOANLD CUP held at Bandon's OM course was solid "power logo land" only outdone by the OM logo itself

The two biggest power-logo gatherings I've witnessed:

1. The Travelers Championship this year; everyone in the state of CT who owns a Masters hat seemed to be wearing it.

2. Parents Weekend at Washington and Lee each year.  Go to the football game and you'll probably see 10 of the top 25 American clubs' logos, plus a few international heavy hitters.

I played golf once with an architect that was wearing an NGLA sweater just to torture me.  I also know of another architect that sports some of his own power logos to go along with his North Berwick golf bag.

I ran into a foursome at Plainfield his year with thw following gear (this is legit):  Pine Valley hat, Cypress hat, Merion sweater, Sand Hills hat.

First tee @ Shinnecock US Open -Thursday around lunch time.

There we're more logo's there from prized courses than you can imagine. There was a Friars Head contingent - An NGLA contingent - along with a group from Merion, Pine Valley and what I later found out was Somerset Hills (must have been the USGA contingent) plus every other well know course on LI.

I remember standing on the rope line and Ernie Ells walking over being introduced to a man ( who I assume Mike Pascucci) along with a group with a logo I had never seen and having a very animated conversation about this "new course".

I gotta get me some power logos.  I have one or two for caps and shirts (pretty well knackered), but I feel hopelessly inadequate (shabby even, but not quite squalid) when stood next to most GCAers.  I usually send all the power stuff to my dad, but I have a feeling its second tier power for you lot.  Not the sort of power that carries one through to the first tee after a heavy session the previous night.

I don't recall ever being a power logo festival before.  Is that why the 1 or 2 logo rule was developed?  Anyway, my golf goal for 2011 is to get hold of enough swag so that when I am invited to a power (or even a puff) club I have more logos than the member.  How cool would that be?  I know I am there for one club - if I remember to bring the gear.  Anybody care to guess which club?

Very fine guess and one that I forgot about.  I have a towel and a cap in the rota of stuff I use.  However, I never get to play with members (so spending $ in the shop is partly a way to say thank you) so wheres the fun in it?   What do you think - does YHC have enough power?

There is at least one more out there - the one I was thinking of.

Prob not "marquis" enough, true. But a nice one to have in the locker in case you need to impress those "in the know"!

Brian

Shit, now I gotta get a locker?  What sort of logo does that take?

I bought an NGLA sweatshirt thingy but never wear it, it's an ugly Pepto-Bismol pink.

Steve Shaffer should be the role model - he wears his Cobbs Creek hat at such events.

The best I have seen was a guy at Stone Eagle just a couple of weeks ago.  He was decked out from head to toe with this ensemble; cypress point hat, seminole golf shirt, sleepy hollow belt, and personalized logo footjoys that had his initials on one side and Medalist logo on the other.  The gent was a member at all of those clubs, but I thought it was hilarious he was sporting all of them.

Why?

Why did I buy it?  It looked good at the time and I had the fever.   ;)

Why don't I wear it?  See above about the color.

I draw the line at the double logo.  I played down here with a former GCA'er who wore a Cypress Point shirt AND hat.  Double no no.

I wear my Schmidt-Curley Golf Design hat every time I play nowadays (which is not often). If we judge "power" by the number of courses an architect has under construction, I doubt anybody can top it!

, sleepy hollow belt,

I've always, and just my opinion - thought golf course BELTS were silly and have never considered buying one

I still like tipped belts, even though not as popular as they used to be.  When at Ballyneal this summer, saw a guy in the dining room wearing a Merion shirt, and a Pine Valley hat!  Nice combo there.  I was sitting at a table with a guy wearing a Riviera sweater, and some other guy wearing an orange Illinois hat!

I have a couple and they can be pretty fun. But they don't really match with anything...
