An October day on Long Island

Saturday the 16th of October was a pretty complete day.

Started with a ferry over from New London.  Fishers Island from my seat on the ferry.


Too early in the morning to take advantage of the bar on board. 


Orient Point up ahead.


Eastern Long Island has some great looking buildings.  Like this church.


And the Big Duck.


Since I wasn't due in Stony Brook for lunch until noon, I made a detour to pay my respects.








All three gravesites are within 20 yards of each other. 


I also drove by NGLA just to get a better photo of the gates to heaven.  Plus you can see so much of the course from the road. My only other time there I arrived almost at dawn and stayed past dark.


From Sebonac road, you can see some of the restoration work going on at Southampton.  The punchbowl seems to be coming along nicely. Can't wait to see some photos posted after the work is finished.

Then I headed west to the delightful St. Georges. 









Here's how you clean your spikes.



After finishing up at dark, it was off to an Islanders game.


Then a late dinner at the LI branch of Peter Luger.  Pictured below is the magnificent bacon appetizer. 


I could use more days like that one.

I played golf with Okposo last summer.  He seemed like a great guy but I know so little about hockey that I had to admit after about a minute of conversation I had no idea who he was.

Good work John. You truly have a knack for tying highly interesting, non golf photos together with your travels.

On a related topic, I think the gca.com/nerd crowd would drink more Dos Equis if you were pitching it instead of that other jerk. ;)

Thanks for the comments.

No photo of the steak.  While it's quite good, I still think Sparks is better.

Did not take home any of the sauce.  Not a big fan of it.

Dos Equis pitchman - Yea, that would boost their sales.

Very nice John, What a great day. It is a nice touch to include the famous tombstones. I am glad you did not include Woody Hayes.
