  Which states have never held a major because of architectural insignifigance?Throw out private ones that may qualify but would be unwilling.

Vermont

All are pretty empty for quality GCA considering the vast amount of space the above states take up.

I think you ought to throw out the ones that are logistically impaired, like just about every state mentioned so far.

Nashville's Richland Country Club (NLE) hosted the 1980's Women's U. S. Open, memorable for Amy Alcott's win in 100+ degree heat.

You could also throw out Vermont, which held the 1914 US Am, a 'Major'.

For years, Desert Mountain hosted The Tradition, which was (is it still?) a senior tour major. But I am not aware of any regular tour majors here, or any USGA championships but for a few junior am and mid-am type events. Given the Arizona summer heat, it's pretty unlikely any regular tour major will ever be held here.

But we do get a WGC in February.

Vermont has plenty of worthy GCA to have hosted a major in the Early half of the 20th century

equinox, ekwanok, and Dorset Field Club are all top notch

No majors for the Great State of Connecticut (as far as I know). :(  New York and New Jersey have hogged them all in the past few years.

There are a bunch of excellent golf courses in the Nutmeg State, but not too many with the infrastructure or brute size to hold one, I guess.  Stanwich?

Arizona hosted the 1941 and 1942 Western Opens at Phoenix CC.
The Western was also held in Tennessee in 1913 (Memphis CC) and 1923 (Colonial CC).
