Off topic but relevant,

The High Tide Mansion, on Ocean Drive, in Newport, RI, built for William Starr Miller in 1900, owned by Hickman Price (maybe Jr.) in 1976 not sure when bought, but he has since passed but may still be in his family. The property has a beautiful green built into the front lawn, with I think two bunkers, all beautifully manicured, and waving a Newport CC flag. I have seen what looked like an independent pick up truck with a man on some green cutting equipment, maybe NCC grounds crew!!!

John Van der Bought speaks of the Coastal Commission as though it has the approval of the California Electorate, I can assure you that if the vote was taken today it would lose in a landslide. Originally it was to prevent the bastardization of beach areas as can be seen in Malibu; then it encroached  inland for a thousand feet. Another facet of the CC's clout was something called the Influence Zone, this allowed their powers to reach inland and to include the peaks of the coastal mountain ranges to come under their purview.

As Lou Duran pointed out, we have little say in some of the weirder decisions of this beaurocracy.

Bob, it very well might lose on a vote, so why don't some of those who are opposed to the CCC start a another ballot initiative to eliminate it?

It is interesting where a post can go on here. Carl, my point is to put some local information up about a house next to one of the most famous courses on earth. That house is often noticed and discussed by golfers and GCA types. It also brings out numerous property rights  as well as golf developement issues faced by many on this site. As Bob noted, the current landowner apparenly bought without knowing the CC rules. However that is history now. Also I never miss a chance to tie Rodney Dangerfield and Canddieshack to any subject possible. Lou it is good to see you back defending my right to be wrong.

Tiger- what are friends for if not to overlook our faults, focus on our virtues, and stand beside us through thick and thin?

I am glad to hear that this matter is not settled, though if it was me, I'd probably sell the house, maybe targeting a smart, thoughtful "Greenie" who wants to do the right thing (by CACC standards).

JVB's suggestion is a good one, though there's probably not one person in CA who would make it a life's mission to fight the CACC for every 100 whose environmental activism is their raison d'etre.

OK, McBride, you're getting under my skin.  One smiley face should have sufficed.  Three and you're trying to say something.  What is it now, pray tell!?
