You hit the same club off the tee and into the green on these two holes...that has to be some sort of non-links course record. I think regardless of the tees you were playing it's 150+ yard difference. They do run in opposite directions and I seem to remember the day although two weeks back is well into my subconcious...

There are no weak holes or shots at Merion.  That is one of the aspects that makes it among the greatest on this planet.  Anyone who thinks otherwise places themselves in the rarified air of stupidity previously reserved for Mike Sweeney.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

That wind was crazy cool to play in that day, wasn't it JC?! I thought I was still in Wales. I putted from 100 yards out on 2 and the ball hit the pin and stayed an inch from the hole.

The wind was crazy and played a role on just about each shot I played that day (including the putts).

It was insane and but for the enormous flagsticks at Merion it goes in.  That is one of the beautiful things about Merion, how fast and firm it plays from everywhere (but the rough).

Since J.C. is still smarting from that loss, I'll ask before ending my inquiry...anyone else with a ticket on the "No weak holes at Merion, not even in the slightest way" train, before it leaves the station?
Coming in 2024
~Elmira Country Club
~Soaring Eagles
~Bonavista
~Indian Hills
~Maybe some more!!

There is no way I would pick a par 3 at Merion as a weak candidate.  The set works beautifully.  For me, the weak aspect of the course are the two par 5s, but if I had to pick one, it would be #4.  I detest the water/bunker combo fronting the green and other than the marooned bunkers all over the course (maybe more of a maintenance issue?), this was the only architectural aspect of the course I questioned.

Stuart, thanks for the thread.  Only Merion is strong enough to rise above the inane thread wars waged in her name.

Ciao
