Scott,
I played it in year 1 and several more times over the years. The impact of the housing was remarkable. I thought it definitely was worthy of its good notices at the beginning. I just don't have that much desire to go back now. If I were in the area for one day, I would probably go to Talking Stick instead.

I'm with you.

Now that we know the top 100, I'd like to know the
what the Next 100 are!  ???

We may have to bring in Greenspan to deal with golf course inflation.

Andrew:

While Greenspan may indeed be the "inflation hawk", remember
that there have been more courses built in the last 15 or
20 years, than in the previous 80-90 before it.

The ranking lists started in 1966 with GD listing the "200 Toughest Course".  Since that time, I would guess that 60% of all US courses have been built.

By championing the addition of course to a Top 100 list (that
began with 200), how is that inflation?

Sounds more like deflation, if you ask me.

Several people here have said that Troon North isn't nearly the same since it's become a housing track.  Of course, some people also say it didn't deserve it's Top 100 ranking in the first place.  Haven't played it, don't know.

Aesthetically, Monument is much changed.  The architecture is still the same.  Monument has changed only  a little in my assesment, which was that it never was a top 100 course architecturally.

The Pinnacle course is pretty bad, ultimate cart ball, more suburban encroachment and less exciting architecture.

As for Jim Lewis' comment about where he'd go, I'd rather go to Apache Stronghold. Much more interesting than anything in Scottsdale. Arguably,  a whole different class.
