What about Mark O'Meara ?

He pissed the PGA of America off when he said the participants should be paid an appearance fee for playing in the Ryder Cup prior to the 1999 matches. Hence why now the PGA "donates" $100,000 to each players favorite charity ::) Needless to say I don't think he's welcome as a captain.

Yeah, they probably couldn't afford his appearance fee anyway.

I don't understand the need to move on to a new captain each time. By all accounts, Azinger did a great job last time around. Why wouldn't we want to bring him back, assuming he's interested?

Someone has to explain to me what "how old" is ?

Joe Torre did well with the Yankees when he was in his 60's.

Frankly, the too old excuse doesn't fly.

Nelson has the inner fire, competitive record and desire to assist.

You're too old to talk about how far you hit it...

What does your reply have to do with the question at-hand / re: Larry Nelson ?

Nelson was screwed, no doubt. I wonder if there's an inside story that we'll never know. Passing him over made no sense.

That said, there should be a gang rush to get the captain's gig for 2012, because it's on U.S. soil. The poor sap who gets stuck with the 2014 Ryder Cup -- no doubt to be played on an as-yet unbuilt Donald Trump course in Scotland -- is almost guaranteed to receive the same vilification Pavin is getting now. When you win once in 30 years on foreign soil, your team is facing an almost insurmountable home-field disadvantage. But somebody has to take the bullet. This year Pavin stepped forward. Bet he would have won at Valhalla -- or Medinah.

The 2014 RC is scheduled for Gleneagles in Scotland.

But knowing the PGA they will probably pick Davis Love...Corey Pavin part deux.

Not if rides this bad boy up the ramp at the opening ceremonies ...

I`m thinking much more Ralph Lauren than Harley Davidson. What are the chances of him emerging from a motorcycle bar with any of his teeth? Give me Larry Nelson.
