Having never visited, I assume the choices are The Blue and The White...does anyone advise differently?

Joel,

Definitely the Blue! was not that keen on the Great White. Try the new McLean course (formerly the Silver course) as a possible alternative as it sounds challenging.

Blue twice or Blue and Silver.  Play White only if it is quiet, it's fun when you can zip around it but painfull when crowded.

It's panned here, but I enjoyed the Blue, especially since I expected what I got: A good golf course that gets press thanks to the Tour event it hosts.

You may want to play the Jim McLean Signature course.

It is off property making it a bit more relaxed. McLean made some changes to the layout for the better and the condition is as good as anything there. It was the old silver course.

If your staying at Doral there is a shuttle that runs all day back and fourth.

It is a little baffling to call the famed course the Blue Monster, but the recently renovated the Jim McLean Signature Course.
I had to check the website to see if they really call it so...

It didn't take long to find this also:
"the Great White was rated as the best new golf course of 2000 by the National Golf Foundation."

P.S.
I played the Blue a couple years ago.
I liked a couple holes.
Nothing memorable for me.

Why do you think?  Press visit.  Where else would you suggest?  Played Indian Creek previously..thought it was nice, not overwhelming.  Also---trying to stay close to the resort, as that's where we are staying...family is in tow, and now that my kids are in college, don't see them as much as I'd like.

I don't really understand your statement-

But I am guessing your questioning the re-naming of the Silver course.

Jim McLean has been at Doral for a very long time and is a major draw for the Resort. His golf school at Doral is one of the best in the world, if not the best.

He re-designed the golf course himself, and Doral and McLean decided to name it the Jim McLean Signature. I don't really see what is baffling about that.

The hype for the Doral hooks plenty of people.Give high marks to the folks there for the constant PR they generate.

I was one of them years and years ago.

The 18th deserves the fanfare when encountering a tough south / southwest headwind.

Try Crandon Park -- the former Key Biscayne. Great views of Miami and has a number of solid holes. Formerly hosted a senior tour stop few years back.

A sleeper.

Try Colony West in Tamarac -- a bit of a ride but it's a very tough test with plenty of fun holes -- the par-4 12th is one of South Florida's best holes.

Blue, White, Red, Gold and the Jim McLean Signature Course.
It doesn't fit the theme or history of Doral.
They seem to have given up their identity.

If Jim's golf school is the best in the world, I'm glad it is named after him.
Why does he need more than the golf school?
If he wanted more, give him a raise or something.

Is the Jim McLean Signature Course the best in Florida?  the best at Doral?
Why let him redesign the golf course when there are several other good options?
Are you saying he didn't use a ghost architect?
