.....wouldn't look out of place in a Florida housing development.  ::)

Two weeks ago we played 36 at Royal Porthcawl down the road a bit, and I remember thinking, "Why the hell aren't they playing here?  Oh right, follow the money."

The weather is a bloody shame, it'll be a long day in Wales. Especially with Mike Tirico nattering on....

If they were playing on a proper links would they have had to halt play?  Also the rain suit fiasco is unforgivable.  I heard the U.S. side was actually looking in the merch tent for something more waterproof to wear...Advantage Euros....

The rain suit fiasco is absolutely brilliant.  I gather US team officials are spending thousands in the merchandising tent!
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Looks like Sun Mountain blew it big time.  What happened to Zero Restriction?

From Golf Digest:  "The Sun Mountain RainFlex suits, while waterproof and breathable, have the feel of a warm-up outfits from other team sports, with the flag, the names on the back, and the "USA" all in an old-fashioned typeface. The only thing missing are the tear-away trousers."

Bill,

Having seen the scale of the infrastructure needed, I'm afraid that Porthcawl wouldn't cope...

That in turn is about money though... Until they scale back the whole tournament (of which there is no chance), there will be very few courses that can cope...

The greens look tricky.  Subtle breaks hard to spot.  I saw lots of putts seemingly head for the hole, then slightly veer off or straighten out the last foot or so.  Has anyone played the course?

Jim,

I have this spring.

The 2010 course is very typical of recent modern golf courses. Most of the fairways are created valleys using containment mounds, there is tons of water in play and the greens are typically up from the fairways. It’s designed to be fair, clearly seen from the tee and the greens are set up to handle extremely fast and dry conditions. The ideal approach is almost always in the air and the running game has been largely taken away by elevated greens, placement of bunkers or the constant use of water to front greens. 2010 is very similar to the K Club.

There is nothing really wrong with the course, but also very little that you would call remarkable or memorable. It all blends in together over the round. There are some decisions to make at 2010, but the constant pinching of landings meant any smart player would simply lay back because there was no percentage in playing into the neck. I found there was no real need to be creative since every shot was so clearly defined by what you had to do.

Tony

After a few drinks your Irish accent comes out, could you repeat what you have just said as I missed some of it. Can you speak slowly to enable me to understand.

Thanks ;)
