I hear Soule (Ojai, CA) has returned to its pre-Hanse remodel routing. My initial thought was the Ojai Men's Club, known to remove a Hanse bunker or two, decided they liked the older routing. I gather the back nine is now the front again, and holes 1 and 2 have returned to be 17 and 18. I enjoyed the Hanse routing, but the more I think about it, the pre-Hanse routing makes sense.
Perhaps the decision to return to the pre-Hanse routing has to do with flow and the speed of play. The current hole number one is visually stronger as a start to the round and might play a little faster. And does a par 3 after the turn make for faster play? I also feel the pre-Hanse 17 and 18 are much better finishing holes.
