My C-5 disc exploded one morning as the result of a car accident I was hurt in 20 years before. I had a piece of my hip fused there and from the moment I woke up there has been no pain or stiffness. It was a bit of a wait before being allowed to swing a golf club, but it's been 15 years now and though it is now a convenient excuse for my poor play, it really hasn't caused any of it... For those that don't know, C-5 is in the middle of the neck.

My C5 and C6 are in a mess too from a car accident and probably need to be rebroken, it has affected my enjoyment of the game, I need a cart really and my upper body strength is weak. I am 11 handicap was 3 and I just dont hit it far enough, I also have to stop playing if it gets too cold, so I cant arrange long term golf.

Why do you ask Anthony?

Did you have an accident in bed?

Though not a member, Frank Nobilo of the Golf Channel and former tour player had his C-5 fused some years back.

I had C5-C6 done five years ago, with no problems since, get a good surgeon, ask around, it makes a huge difference. I do work comp adjusting and about 75% of back surgery's we pay for are botched or no help at all.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Everything is gonna work out fine tomorrow. Soon you'll be good as new.

Let us know how it went.

In the meantime...

Get some rest my friend.

good luck. 2 back surgeries have forced my retirement from the game, but I know guys who are doing great after fusions, hope for the best and follow your rehab to the tea
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Hi Anthony,

I also have had ongoing problems over the lat 3 years and am planning on surgery on C6 and C7 in November.
I can still play but a tummy thats too big and have lost much flexibility. I know some people that have had the surgery successfully.
I am sure that you will be back on the fairways soon.

Good luck from Ireland.

Ken.

I predict that although you will come through the surgery fine, you will again lose a match to Bill McBride at King's Putter next March. Perhaps you will need to get the best caddy available.

Eric,

Does that put Anthony at about 5'8"?! ;)

Anthony,

Get well soon, my friend.  I read that eating daily meals at Nikki's helps with the recovery time.   ;)

Anthony,

Speaking from experience, in a week or two you're going to be driving yourself nutty with boredom. You're going to want to go drive somewhere... Be smart and do EXACTLY what you are told. Keep the neck brace on, stay out of the car, take short walks that are ever-increasing...

Play golf in your head with the great memories you have otherwise when you can once again begin to swing a club you'll find you can't.

One day at a time... Enjoy the help you'll need when taking a shower...  ;D
