I am not able to find an online link to the article titled "Linksland and the Bottle" in the latest New Yorker...but to quote: "Golf might do well to get rid of the lush and plush, and go back to the lyrical imprecision of playing over natural country, as the first golfers did in Scotland on the Old Course at St. Andrews."

Thanks, Craig. I'll go look for it in the New Yorker. These kinds of essays ultimately sink or swim on the quality of a few 'turns of phrase' -- and "lyrical imprecision" sure is a winner.

 Comparing the look of TOC's bunkers from a distance to a kitchen grater was the best for me.
