David,

I haven't read many how-to books on golf, but as it is I'm about halfway through "Search for the Perfect Swing," which I started primarily as a teaching tool.  For what it's worth I pured about a half-dozen iron shots yesterday and that's about six more than usual.

That's the one.  As the cover implies it's geeky, but in the end it is simple and "scientific" as opposed to someone offering a pet theory.  That said it seems pretty much in line with Hogan's "Five Lessons."
