George is correct. If they are GCA nuts, they will appreciate Belvedere (they may even if they don't). However, if they are a more typical golfer, then Arcadia, Forest Dunes, Bay Harbor or even the Bear might be more appreciated.
I'm not sure what the Doak scale is, but the Jones scale gives Arcadia a 4. The course is in a beautiful setting and the greens can be fun but the whole place is entirely contrived and, as you mentioned, the routing/pacing leaves a lot to be desired.
Also, all of the above, including Belvedere, should be given up if you have the chance to play Kingsley or Crystal Downs.
