That's too bad, Pike Creek was not a bad little golf course and pretty difficult.  Hopefully New Castle County will take it over but they already have nearby Delcastle Park.  There's alot of reasonably priced public golf near there with Delcastle, Porky Oliver, and Rock Manor.  Add Patriots Glen, Bittersweet (FKA Brantwood), and two Chesapeake Bay courses within a half an hour.  It's a pretty saturated market.

Here's Joe Logan's review from 1997. The course did 40,000 rounds back in the day:

I recommended that some friends go there last Saturday just to experience it. They reported back that the conditions were horrific. There was "William Proxmire" type crab grass on the tees ( in case you don't remember he was the Senator with the hair plugs). This grass had not even been cut in a month. The greens were pretty good.

When I graduated from college and could no longer be a junior member at DuPont I joined there the first year it opened. It was always a great test of golf which I enjoyed . BTW my annual dues in 1973 were about $250.

Sad to hear it.  That was the first "mountain-type" course I ever played.

Thats a shame to hear.  I havent been there in quite a while (small junior tournaments) but I remember it being quite popular.
