Here are a few.  I didn't take any while playing and on Friday when the light was good it was too late to get many.  Clouds made it not woth the effort after 36 on Saturday and Sunday.

Would everyone please take a moment and tell us your favorite hole at Ballyneal?

Mine is #12.

Bill,

#15  ;D

Kidding.  As demure as #3 is, photogenic at #8 is, brawny as #13 is....

#7 is what golf is supposed to be.

Dan,

Every time I see the road and grain elevators at the entrance I think of the first time I went down that road in the middle of winter.
Rupert swore that some  good golf land was waiting for us south of town.  We drove down that road and stopped at the gate by the Evergreen trees.  We  parked inside the gate and got on some four wheelers. I was skeptical.

Rupert took me west up to the top of that large dune Dan has in his second picture.  Remember no road existed as you guys see it today.  We crested the top of that dune and what I saw laying in front of me was miles of dunes.  We stood on the ridge for awhile and my first thoughts were yes,  we have sand dunes but were they to big?  We drove around for hours on the four wheelers.  When we were done I thought just maybe.  I called Tom on my drive back to Denver and said I couldn't believe what I just witnessed and stated that I saw some spectacular holes today.

Ballyneal a special place just like the Sand Hills of Nebraska

Jim,

That tale is as classic as they come!  I really enjoyed reading it.

Can you recall your initial thoughts about the routing from that first visit?  And how they may contrast with the final routing?  I thought I heard you guys came up with over 100 holes.  Is that true?

Bill,

I've always held #2 in high regard, but I won't go as far as to say it's my favorite after the bashing I took a while back  :)

I'll have to go along with #7 as well - that greensite is simply awesome, and the way one plays the hole changes so much depending on the wind and the pin position.

I like #17, although I think it's too penal a hole (or at least that's what I heard over the weekend).

My favorite is #10. I don't think I have ever played another hole that better defines "reward heroic shots" while not overly punishing poor ones. Most everyone can hit the fairway on this hole, but only the most skilled (or lucky) will have an easy second shot.

Richard,

You must not play a right to left ball flight.  It doesn't matter where I hit it it ends up in the bowl or worse, unless playing from the far back tee.  That, however, doesn't change my opinion on the hole at all - I think it's one of the best at BN.

Scott,

I too tended to really enjoy #17.  Similar to Richard's comments regarding #10, I found an aggressive play with the driver really opened up the hole, while the bailouts allowed for options, albeit with higher difficulty levels for the 2nd shot.  And the variety hole locations allowed for shaping the ball in both ways depending upon where the pin was set.  But I must say, the 17 others were pretty darn good too.

Favorite hole: Par 3 - 11, best when off the back right corner of 10 green... Awkward wedge shots are my fav ;)

It's confirmed.  My memory card got fried and I lost my pictures from the weekend.  Unfortunately, no pictures of the winners wearing their "trophies".  Here were the winners.

A: Jon Spaulding and Robert Ball
B: (S.O.B.'s) Scott Szabo and Dan DeWaard
C: Dan Moore and Mike Collantine
D: Mick Drew and Darren Gloster (friends of Brett Morrissy)

As a consolation, here are some pics I took this morning.

The course is blazing fast and the greens are running 10+ right now.  If anybody GCAers are within driving distance and want to come out for a day or two, shoot me a PM.  I'll be here til Monday.

That's a shame Jim!  But great photos as a consolation!  What time were those taken this AM?  If I hadn't moved from Denver this past year, I would be out there in t-minus 2.5 hours!  :D  Hope you have fun out there

Cheers,

Bill,

I gotta go with #8 as my favorite hole.  It just feels like the perfect hole to me.

JC - thanks for sharing your story of seeing the site for the first time.  I can't imagine a more difficult and fun process than picking out the best 18 holes out of the chop hills.

Ballyneal truly is a special place.  I will never forget the experience, course, staff, and GCA group.

Wyatt, those hands and blade are in a perfect position for a properly skulled shot to the 12th green.

You could have joined us, but were too busy adjusting Colton's belt buckle with your tongue for 18 holes.......

Mine is #12.

I played my first 6 rounds at Ballyneal two weeks ago...loved everything about it. If I had to choose a favorite hole, it would be #7. I could play that hole 18 times and consider it a great round of golf. Other holes I would consider are #5, #8, and #13.
