I have played none of those courses, but based on sentiment I am surprised Harig had Turnberry so high and Lytham so low.

Strange they have an asterisk next to Cinque Ports as a current rota course. Do they know some thing we don't know?! ;D

I thought it was a fine list and that he gave a decent enough rationale.

I also agree that Turnberry is ranked too highly, but I love the love for Prestwick....

I also agree that Turnberry is ranked too highly,

As a course to play or as a Open Venue? As an Open venue it has a good track record...

Point taken, Sean.  Seems like it's based more on Open History, etc. than on GCA....

The finishing holes at Carnoustie makes it one of the best championship courses. And its list of winners there is impressive. Should be higher.

Sandwich, TOC, Deal, Birkdale, Royal Portrush

Hoylake

Turnberry, Muirfield

Lytham, Carnoustie, Troon

Musselburgh

Please note we can't really count Princes as the course is long gone.

Ciao

The thing about the current Rota courses to me is their high standard from top to bottom. I give them all easily a Doak 8 or higher. That small of a standard of deviation bests the wide range in quality of championship venues as selected by the USGA and PGA.

The current rotation is very strong and inho stronger than the US Open rotation. I like TOC, Muirfield, RSG or Sandwich, Turnberry,Carnouste, Birkdale,  Royal Lytham, Troon and Hoylake.Of the others  first Portrush, Prestwick, Deal and Musselburgh
