"And he can get it to within two feet consistently of the hole with a putter from 100 yards."

Grant Rogers is good, but is he THAT good?

On what do you base that, Eric?  In Dream Golf: the sequel to the sequel (and also in the original), he lays it up within fifteen feet from 100 yards out.  Has he holed out a few since then?

I noticed that comment too, but you are probably putting too much stock in the word consistently.  I imagine there's a little hyperbole in there as well as I would imagine that within 2 feet from 100 yards Is probably as good as the average result on tour.

Not to mention that hitting a 200 yard draw with you putter is sort of defeating the point of the question of whether the course is playable with the putter. Generally when someone asks that question I think the real motivation behind the question is whether or not the ball truly needs to leave the ground to get around the course.  Clearly if the guy can hit his putter like I hit my 3-iron hybrid (except I can't hit a draw) he could play any course with only his putter.

Anyway, I don't think this question was really intended to be the focal point of the interview!!   ;D

I think Mr Keiser was simply trying to illustrate that Grant Rogers has mad skillz with his putter - which is does. His entire game consists of mad links skillz and if you ever have a chance to play with him consider it a privilege because you will be in for a treat.

One of the most interesting aspects of the interview was Mr. Keiser's commitment to "links golf" - I always wondered if he would consider reverting back to something inland that was similar to The Dunes Club or an "Alwoodley" type vibe - obviously not.

Hopefully there is some more American links land out there!

There is. Apparently he just hasn't looked hard enough.

Mike Keiser may be the most important "owner" in the modern era.  When all is said and done he may be responsible for 10% of the world top 100 courses.

You mention on your blog that all but one course is public.  Which one is private?  Dunes Club?

Thanks

Does this fellow masquerade as Neil Regan when he is at Winged Foot or Sand Hills? :)

Rob Rigg, it's always the questions that aren't the foci, that interest me the most.  I agree on all counts with your assessment.

Dunes Club...ahh, one can dream.

Will the Conservation Course be accessible for the putter from all tees?

I think this bit of links land makes Bandon look positively cosmopolitan. ;)

Having been to Bandon before there was a golf resort, and having been to the location I posted, I can tell you that other than close proximity to the ocean, they did not look alike.
