Kinloch Golf Club: a photo tour
« on: July 09, 2010, 02:17:35 PM »
A little over three weeks ago I had the distinct pleasure of playing Lester George's Kinloch Golf Club.  And a wonderful golf club it is.  I was able to join fellow GolfClubAtlas members Geoff Walsh and Mike Cirba for a morning round.  Geoff was the smart one as he was on vacay in the area, while Mike and I spent about 11 hours in the car that day to make it down from Philly to the Richmond area.   ;)

This place has been talked about plenty and I'm happy to provide a rather thorough photo tour.  The only thing not perfect this day was the lighting on this overcast, hot, and humid morning which was less than ideal, but usable.  The hospitality of Phil Owenby and his staff was simply top shelf.  And the conditioning of the course probably the best I've seen all year, if not many years.  Couple this with a fairly easy to walk course, knowledgeable caddies, and you have a memorable day.

It had rained the night before, so the caddies suggested we play the middle tees at 6400 yards.  This makes some of the par 4's real interesting to play in terms of temptation.  If you are a big hitter, these tees will not challenge you so much off the tees and you should move back to 6800 or the tips at 7200 yards.

The routing is below, with the two nines separated by a lake.  In between the two nines is a very nice 150 yard 19th hole (in red).

I hope you enjoyed the photo tour of Kinloch.  If you get the opp to play it, run, don't walk, to get there.  Or drive through the night like we did.   ;D

Joe failed to mention that I did the driving on ZERO hours of sleep, but he likely would have kicked my butt nonetheless as he fired a very impressive 75 that could have been better.

I also had to buy a very snappy orange shirt to replace the white one I spilled my Starbucks down the front of in a fevered attempt to get some caffeine in my body on my way to pick up Joe.

Geoff looked only slightly more well-rested, like a man on a week's vacation with young kids.  ;)  ;D

Very nice photo tour.

Do we perhaps spot Mike Cirba's snappy shirt on one of the pictures of the 1st hole?

Anyway, have they perhaps used bentgrass on the fairways and greens? Just curious...

Thank you, yes (the non-white one!), yes, and yes.   ;)
