Aerial of the Day #45 - 13 Mar 2002
« on: March 13, 2002, 05:58:06 AM »
I've seen the aerial for SFGC, and this course's bunkering reminds me of SFGC's from above.  Those who love SFGC may call that heresy, but this course is supposed to be pretty good.

Is this course part of a 36 hole complex where the other course has a different feel to it?

No.  One course.  And I KNOW that there are some people here who've played it.

Is that a redan on the left side of the pic - with 7 tees ???
seems to have the correct ingredients - including the short front bunker.

I'm thinking Cailfornia.

I'm thinking No Cal.

This is should be screaming for the Gib, Rich, Adam, Dan K, Huckster mob for a reply.

I may have an idea is it a very young course?

Tom,

I was actually counting on you for some further hints.  ::)

At least the course is reasonably priced.  :P

Wow--how about those cart paths?  I count three separate holes where the path actually cuts across the line of play.

I won't be here to give any more hints until 1:00, so I'll have to give some here.

First (big) one is that John F was correct in the location of the course.

Second is that the price comment of mine above was facetious.

Third, and, as usual, obscure, is that the town this is located could be derived from a special process of drycleaning.

I also seem to remeber a post about the emptiness of the parking lot, the expectation of it needing to be filled w/ Benz's & Beemers!

Of for that bust in the tech sector!!

I thought you had played it, Tom.  I'm pretty sure Gib and Rich have.  You don't get to play all the new ones in your area to course rate for NCGA?  It IS open to the public now... :)

Anyhow, yes, the architect has a more famous namesake in golf...

OK, now I am completely confused.  I thought I had it given the town, the wine reference, the id of a key contributor...

But now those seem to have been WRONG clues.

Scott, I am gonna kick myself and likely be completely ashamed, but I don't recognize this.  Every course I can think it might be, it's missing a key feature I would recognize.

And I haven't started as an NCGA rater yet!  I begin in a few weeks... just got the appointment this year.  That being said, I have had a way of getting around outside of that, as several have pointed out to me!   ;)

I got that, KR.  Ok, I still can't get it.  I was thinking it's Maderas, which is in SoCal in a town called Poway, which did just open, fits the obscure dry cleaning clue...and which apparently is overpriced... but the arky there is Miller in name, Graves/Pascuzzo in some form of reality, our beloved Neal in REAL reality...

So all the clues have me way messed up.

And I still don't recognize it from the air.  I typically need to know a course VERY well for that, or see some very famous or unique hole, or another landmark.  This just isn't coming to me.

Let the kicking of myself begin....

TH - I am having trouble figuring it out too.  Clearly, the course is in the East Bay somewhere and the picture was taken during the summer?

But - I'm lost.  The clues haven't helped.  The only thing I could make out of the dry cleaning clue was it was in Martinez, CA.  (Martinizing).  But, it still doesn't help me.
