Time for a New Thread

I think it is time to start a new thread.  A few weeks ago I asked if there had been any good posts, which immediately led to some great ones.  Friar's Head and the Pro V1 were two examples.

Fortunately, Golfweek announced their Top 100 Modern and Classic  >:(  ??? and  :-[ !, giving us fodder for a solid week.  As usual, a lot of people feel compelled to disagree with the result when they really disagree with the criteria, but at least it stirred a healthy discussion.

I was amazed at the lack of interest in a "Favorite 5" in the style of the Golfweek writers.  Gotta love Seanor, who listed 7 courses!  :-/

My biggest question for this has been, "What should the subject of my post be?"  ::)  The site has been around a while, so it is harder to come up with new yet relevant content.

Here goes:

IN 25 WORDS OR LESS (apologies to Jimmy Buffett), PLEASE MAKE ONE SUGGESTION FOR THOSE IN THE GOLF DESIGN FIELD TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WHEN WORKING ON THEIR NEXT PROJECT.  

I'm sure all of the bright minds here will have some good advice.  I'm aware that the 25 word maximum will preclude some GCA luminaries from weighing in  ;) , but it will go a long way to making it easier to read succinct proposals.

Try building a course no more that 6600 yards long that will still test today's top amateurs.  It should be more interesting for all golfers.

see Pine Valley Fenway, Quaker Ridge, Seminole and Inniscrone as examples off the top of my head that could play at 6600 yards and test top amateurs when set up properly.  I think greens complexes must be severe and interesting to do this.  Couple the severe greens with angles of play that make some shots feasible and others impossibly difficult and you could build a course to test anyone. In a modern course, Gil did this very well at Inniscrone and from what I read of the skins game held there, the top pros didn't light it up either. Applebrook would fit this category as well.

send designers to Pasatiempo to see a very long playing 6400yd course requiring shot making. send them to Hanse and C+C courses to show bunkering that are hazards! ;D

i'd personally like to see some flat-bottomed bunkers, in the mode of raynor/macd and silva at Black Creek.

Incorporate the ground game in to the design, limit irrigation capability to the point that fast and firm conditions are a neccesity.

A course that can be played both forward and backward.  Greens are tees and Tees are greens-- Whatdaya say, TEPaul's course could be the first! (my apologies for going over the limit)
