Vintage PV Pics...
« on: July 02, 2010, 08:36:16 AM »
I was digging through some of my grandfather's photo albums last night and found a few gems from one of his rounds at Pine Valley.   I have never played PV but from what I've seen it looks as though the only that's changed is the trees are taller?  Would love to hear any interesting comparisons/changes from the cognoscenti...can you guess the year these were taken?  I'll post more but here's a start...sorry about the low quality.

Based on the Nixon photo I'll guess 1959.

I love seeing treasures such as these. Much thanks for posting. (My guess is similar - 1958)

What part of the course is the photo with Nixon? On my one trip to PV about 7 years ago there was nothing as open as that background. It looks like a totally different golf course in that photo compared to the others.

I was thinking the same thing as well.  I didn't take the pictures nor have I played there, so I can't be sure but it looks too wide open to be PV.   The pics are from 1963.

My guess would be the Nixon pic was not taken at Pine Valley. Still, a terrific set of shots, Trevor.

The shot with the caddies (?) lounging on the bank is awesome.  Something tells me such informality would be frowned on nowadays in many places.

And played with persimmon and butter-knives, no less!

Thanks much, Trevor. You can feel a less precious aura and era coming through.

I wonder if it was ranked No. 1 in 1963.

Great photos! Although it may not be so in actuality, just based on these photos, it sure seems like PV has changed very little since 1963.

Wow. After I was willing to give my left nut to play valley club, I think my right nut'd have to go in this situation.

Trevor,

Besides just being wonderfully charming vintage photographs, I think those pictures have great value in capturing many of the holes just as trees were starting to encroach a bit on the original fairway widths.

I'm hoping some folks from the club get a look at them, and contrast them to the growth today, which is a bit more pervasive and intrusive.

In any case, thank you very much for sharing these terrific mementos from your grandfather.

They are really a priceless treasure.

Thank you for posting these photos.  I love Pine Valley and those photos reflect a wonderful era.  I also concur on the Nixon photo, its hard to place it at PV.  Too much grass off the fairways, but who knows  Thanks again.
