The "club kinda guy" got me thinking about the true golfers' clubs I have encountered in
my 20 years playing golf.  Would you help me compile a list of true golfers' clubs in the
US?  I would include Europe, but according to the folks on this site... EVERY club in the
UK is a golfers' club.

The name of the club is irrelevant.  Camden might be called a "country club"
but its a golfers'club at heart.  From what I have heard, Sage Valley is pretty
far from a pure golfers club as well.

Golf is the main attraction at Camden, but it is a family club with pool and tennis.

Sage is definitely a golfer's club... all walking with caddies... lots of red meat and red wine. Yes, they have shooting and fishing available, but that's just for diversion when you're not playing golf.

Crag Burn in East Aurora, NY...no tennis courts, no swimming pool...mammoth practice (long and short games) facility and 18 great holes.  Lonnie Nielsen, champs tour, was dir. of golf for twenty years.  AVg. handicap is probably between 5 and 8.

Though I have only read about them, I have gotten the "golfers' club" impression from Chechessee Creek and Hidden Creek.  Is that fair to say?

Hawktree Golf Club

I assume you're talking about the Bismarck course, correct?  I played the three courses in the Triple Challenge a few years ago.  I have family in Eastern Montana, about an hour or two from both Links of North Dakota and Bully Pulpit, and I stopped and played Hawktree on the drive back.  If there's a better deal for three fantastic courses ($140 gets you a round on all three, though it was $125 in 2006), I haven't seen it.  Three really fun courses.

Apparently Wolf Run has 17 members whose handicaps are 0 or better.  The only other two clubs that I know of that can compete with that are Whisper Rock and Champions.

The discussion between Mike Whitaker and David Elvins is priceless on the link between red meat and red wine.

On topic,, I know the vast majority of you guys have never been there, but Sagebrush is totally a true "GOLFERS" club. It is completely fast and firm and made for the ground game and tons of fun. The only reason it may not be a true "GOLFERS" club is that it is a difficult walk. But only from green to tee on some holes. Even I am considering giving a walk a try and at my age, if I make it and am still playing decently, then it is a true "GOLFERS" Club.

Going back to Elvins and Whitaker, Sagebrush dinners are unbelievable Alberta steaks and lots of red wine.

I just hope more of you guys get up here to share the experience. It is truly unique and more fun than you can imagine.

The Mother Ship of GOLFERS Clubs is Bethpage Black.

Pro athletes, pro golfers, fireman, cops, Jersey guys (Matt may yell about the $$ but...), Wisconsin guys call their friends in New York, try to break the phone system code, pay huge premiums, sleep in their cars, rent Winnebago's to play the course.

Thank you Mike! I was loathe to make that comment because all would have simply thought "there goes Phil about the Black again..." But since you did, you are right. Bethpage is all about golf. Even from its original opening when there were many other facilties within its bounds, those who played tennis didn't play golf. The play fields and baseball, football fields, etc... were ther so that entire families could come out and so allow dad an ability to play golf.

Bethpage is a golfer's PARADISE...
