Butler National Loses 200 Trees

The heavy winds and wild thunderstorms yesterday have apparently destroyed 200 trees at BN.  The course is a mess.  Bummer.

I'm playing in an event there in a month.  I'll let everyone know if I can notice a difference.

But, since they lost the trees on 7 and 18, there really weren't that many trees of great significance other than the tree on #2 80 years short of the green and the tree at the dog leg on #3.  

I hope for that great staff and membership that they get up and running soon.

EDIT - 1000th post....does that get me anything?

Just out of curiosity, is it really a bad thing that they lost the 200 trees, beyond the turf damage? Probably make the course a little better assuming they weren't all in the same spot.

Oh, and you can go back and modify the title. Just click "modify" on the post, then change the title, then save.

We'll see John.  I always said that Butler could lose every tree on the property sans 7 or 8 and be just as good of a course - if not better.

That said, those 7 to 8 trees do make some of the holes.

Oak Brook was nailed the other day with that late afternoon storm and I'm not surprised they lost some trees.

Perhaps this is a lesson for all the greens committee chairmen on here...the best time to cut down bothersome trees is right after a big storm as you'll have something to blame :) ;)

Played Butler National last week before the storm.   While I enjoyed the course, there were some holes in which I felt the trees were excessive, so this is probably a good thing.  Perhaps, it can be used by membership to justify tree removal?   We all know how controversial tree removal is at most clubs.

Did they lose the big one in the middle of the 18th fairway, or several of the claustrophobic "framing" trees on 10th approach....sure hope so!! :o

The 18th was removed during the last renovation.
