Tom, the Scottish guy could just as easily have been Willie Watson or even William Clark, who designed a number of Minnesota courses. Maybe even Tom Vardon, who was English, and designed more Minnesota courses than Ross, Watson and Clark put together. Nothing wrong with having a course designed by any of those guys. The point is, we just don't know, so it's better not to make a claim that can't be verified.

It's better unless you are trying to market a course, in which case it might serve your purposes better to make a claim that can't be disproven.  And so Donald Ross ends up credited with 600 courses...
