JC: Surely the Arana El Prat was abandoned when Barcelona airport expanded and they moved to another site. Arana no longer being alive, they got somebody else to design their new course. Word has it that maintenance at El Saler may now be better. It was poor when last I was there, but I also played it many years ago, shortly after Langer made mincemeat of it, and it was in good condition then.

The wish list as of this moment and in no particular order:

NGLA
Merion East
Shinnecock
The Country Club (Brookline)
Newport

As I thought about this I also started thinking about courses I've played and which five I would most like another round (or 10) at in no particular order:

Pine Valley
The Old Course
Ballybunion Old
Baltusrol Lower/Upper (I played 36 each ofd the times I went there and always thought of them as a singularity)
Crail Balcomie

There is so much great golf out there...

4. Lanerch
5. Pine Valley

Nice to see some well traveled guys throw down a list.  And I am SO excited that I've seen a top 10 course that Tom Doak hasn't!  Tom, you really need to see Oakmont sans trees.  The routing itself reminded me of Pac Dunes' ebb and flow.

1)  NGLA--Regarded as my Holy Grail and CBM at his best.  Epic collection of architecture concepts
2) TOC--Home of golf, and epic contour.
3) Sand Hills--considered the best course in the last 5 decades by pretty much everyone in the golf world
4) Merion--how did they do so much with so little?
5) Prestwick/Berwick--sorry, can't pick between them.  I can't imagine golf being more fun than these two courses.

List revision

1) TOC
2) Sand Hills
3) Cypress Point
4) Shinny
5) North Berwick

NGLA is STILL my Holy Grail though.

Cypress and Augusta as 1 and 2 but I'll settle for Shinnecock, Friar's Head, and Fisher's Island since they are all close to home.

What has already been planned-but put off :

RCD, Ballybunion (Goddamn Irish trip been postponed twice now-My 6 year old starting to ask if the country actually exists) Sankaty Head (simply a matter of motivating oneself to drive onto the Cape in summer and get on a boat to Nantucket), Sand Hills... (I need two reasons to visit Nebraska-Warren Buffett has not yet answered my emails),  Bandon Dunes (Close relative in Oregon willing to host us is running for political office in November, so not accepting visitors this year)

I would love to play NGLA but that most likely would require befriending an investment banker then spending 6 hours in his company...

Next!

Want to play;

Royal County Down - best of the links?
Lahinch - with Patrick
Sand Hills - cos my mate keeps telling me it's worth the trip
Augusta National - I seem to be the only person who hasn't played there
Cypress Point - Looks stunning

Top 5 I have played;

TOC
Pine Valley
National Golf Links
Chicago Golf Club
Royal Melbourne composite
Cave Nil Vino

Merion - really looking forward to watching it on TV next year at The US Open
Cypress Point - hopefully next summer, a MacKenzie gem (wonder will there be any similarities to Pasatiempo or Lahinch)
Augusta National - needs no explanation
Oakmont - I loved the 2007 US Open & can still recall every hole from memory
Royal Melbourne West - I really need to get down to Oz.

Only in writing this did I notice my preference towards MacKenzie course.

Regards,

Patrick

I'll keep mine semi-feasible, and limited to those most likely to actually be played:

Crooked Stick - local, and after watching the pros at the BMW last month I'd love to have a shot at it.
Bandon - there's a golf trip somewhere in my future, I just know it.  ;)
Broadmoor - Indpls. Sorry I had to miss the Midwest Mashie
Ross Course - French Lick
Shaker Run - not a big deal I know, but it's by all accounts a nice course, and was built in my hometown about the time I moved out.

John,

Shaker is a decent track but not worthy of your list IMHO.  Go to Springfield CC an hour north to see a great Ross track!

Cheers
