I knew you were slamming SoCal golf.  Tommy rails on it constantly, less so since Rustic opened.  8)

I actually said the LOSER gets to use Ran's Old Bag, hence the incentive to win!   I've seen it and part of any future gathering should be to take up a collection to give him a new one.  No more (faux?) leather!  Two shoulder straps!

Carlyle,
Pick a date 4-5 months out for the guys travelling from out of the area and I'm sure there will be a great turnout. The first ROB has some excellent courses, so make it happen!

How convenient would Saturday, August 9 be?  We could probably play Atlanta Country Club on Friday, the 8th.  I have no idea whether Cuscowilla would be available on the 9th; but, I could find out.

What are some other suitable candidates for golf courses (or dates)?

Make it those two courses, give us that much notice, and it becomes VERY appetizing.... plane flights are pretty cheap into Atlanta...

Great choice of courses, and kudos to you for taking the lead on this.  I would leave it at those two courses, and play 36 at Cuscowilla.  Which leads to the choice of dates.  While I would play in August just to play those courses and enjoy the company of this group, I would suggest that the fall would be a better time if the event is to be here in GA.  Walking 36 at Cuscowilla on a beautiful fall day is a lot more appealing than doing the same in the middle of August when the weather will almost certainly be 90-plus degrees and humid.  I don't want to sound like a wuss, but all things being equal the fall just seems like a better choice (plus it would be less likely to conflict with people's summer vacation plans).

That makes great sense, thank, Mike.

The key to making this really happen will be to just set a date, make the reservations, and then whoever makes it makes it and whoever doesn't doesn't.  I'd say an early October weekend before the time change sounds pretty darn perfect....

But thanks, Carlyle, for taking the lead in any case.

One might want to consider the SEC football schedule
if considering having the outing in the fall.  Where I come
from couples plan their weddings around football season, so
I don't know how a football/golf conflict would go over...
Now that would be a difficult win-win situation to cope
with: great golf with great company or spending an
afternoon with 106,000 of my closest friends watching our
big orange beat up on some poor foe  :)

Keith.

LOL LOL LOL, only the USGA thinks walking 36 in the south in August is fair for men over 30. They live in New Jersey. The heat put me in the hospital after a 36 hole US Am qualifier a few years back. Sadly I had just come home from a 36 a day 14 day marathon in Ireland and still almost bought the farm. Carlyle I love the idea of August since it is sooner, but riding golf may be more popular than this site gives it credit for in August. I think the 2 courses you have selected would be perfect. I will make every attempt to be there. John

Keith,

The Vols are home on Oct 11 vs. UGa, and not playing on the 18th (at Aub Oct 4)

Georgia is at home Oct 4, but away the following two weekends, at Tenn and Vandy.

John,

LSU is open on Oct 4, at home on the 11th (UF) and away on the 18th (USC).

So it looks like Oct 18-19 weekend is best for SEC football, as none of these 3 teams are at home.  Oct 4 is good for UT and LSU, but not UGa.

Excellent point re SEC football, Keith.

Seems to me that each of October 4 and 11 are definitely out for football reasons... October 18 seems to have missable games for Gator, Tiger, Bulldog fans though... if ANY game is missable... Vols are off 10/18.... daylight savings time ends October 26.

FLORIDA
Oct. 4     OLE MISS          GAINESVILLE
Oct. 11    LSU               Baton Rouge
Oct. 18    Arkansas          Fayetteville

Oct 11       FLORIDA      BATON ROUGE
Oct. 18    South Carolina      Columbia

An October date makes the most sense.

But pick a day that is a UGA home game. We will lose few if any people here and Cuscowilla will be wide open.

The same rule holds true for most courses around here. Play on days that are UGA home dates.

I hate to admit that the weekend of October 18th has merit. Columbia SC is not far away. I was planning a trip to the area to play Cucowilla on the way to the game already. We have an expression around here. If you are to be married or buried and would like the occasion to be well attended, do not schedule it on a Saturday when the Tigers are playing. I notice now that Mike Price has found Pensacola, Florida hookers difficult to resist especially when the school credit card is paying for it. That Alabama's schedule did not make the concerned teams list for the event. lol I still think you will have a better crowd from the south in August. Football on TV, football live, football everywhere that time of the year. Heck the Pac 10 games are on the tube during prime post game drinking hours.

October 18 sounds spectacular, I really love the weather
down here in ATL that time of year, too.

And, I'll will be totally honest with you guys, while I cannot
speak for any other rabid college football fans out there; I
would be willing to miss any UT game (gasp!) in order to
participate in the upcoming event.  With the way this seems
to be shaping up, it looks like a "can't miss."  (okay, so when
I got engaged I set the first ground rule- no wedding during
college football season, and now I am putting college football
behind golf and GCA...so the logic goes something like golf
followed by UT football followed by my lovely wife...it sounds
horrible, but I promise I treat her better than that!)

BCrosby - that is a very practical thought, but the main setting this up is a UGa man himself and I don't think HE will take kindly to golf during a UGa home game!

Tiger - as for teams concerned, well.... I didn't know we had Alabama fans in here... do we?

In case there are any, the Tide's sked for dates in question is:

Oct. 4     Georgia             Athens
Oct. 11    SOUTHERN MISS       TUSCALOOSA
Oct. 18    Ole Miss            Oxford

Re Pac10 and other games... well... USC is at Notre Dame on 10/18... game time is TBA but odds are it's right in the middle of the day... there are other Pac10 night games though most likely and great point re those being during prime drinking time where you are!

Yale and Georgia are not often mentioned that close together, are they?  ;D

Count me in on October 18th.  Never thought I'd participate in a golf event on THE THIRD SATURDAY IN OCTOBER, but it just ain't the same anymore now that my beloved Volunteers are cheating routinely and turning out model citizens like Dwayne Goodrich, Leonard Little and Kelly Washington and the Crimson Ripple can't find a coach who can keep his trousers zipped up.  Bring back The Bear and The General.

Nae cheating.  Nae SEC football.

shivas - at times like those, don't you wish things were back to how our Dads had it: waiting outside, smoking cigars, and hell, watching football whilst the wife produced the child?

This whole thing about being present for the birth has screwed up way too many mandatory events.  ;)

For all who are not from around here -- I know that each area of the country has their college football fans, but Georgia fans are a separate breed, I think.

I have friends who live and die with game outcomes, sometimes putting huge stress on their jobs, marriages and finances.  It is a cult-like following, indeed. And this is from a Clemson fan!!! :) :)   I can't wait for the matchup in Death Valley this August.  The Tigers might give the Dawgs a little trouble.   ;)

And Cuscowilla might not be that wide open on a game day.  Alot of people will go play a round there and then head to the game afterwards.

I would love to see ACC after the renovations, so count me in as well.

I've got a jump in here quickly and put in my two cents, as I am a Gamecock!  Oct 18 in Columbia - You boys want to see some hardcore tailgating, the Dawgs think they know how to do it right, but those puppies can't handle the Roosters!  And, Columbia is about two hours from several good golfing hot spots, say Kiawah, Isle of Palms and of course Myrtle, not to mention the Jawja spots you are talking about.  Plus LSU is very good and the 'cocks should be good this year as well, so the game could have some real interest.

Come on Lou Holtz is a member at ANGC!

Count me in where-ever, whenever it is.  I'm still kicking myself for not being able to make the last one, and I'll have 2500 hours billed by then regardless (although that may be the start of the golf season for me if work doesn't calm down soon).
