Singles at Bandon Dunes
« on: June 04, 2010, 01:49:01 PM »
Given budget and time constraints, some time in the next year I'd like to pop in (from Nashville  ;)) at Bandon Dunes on relatively short notice, get in two rounds at OM and a perhaps a third round at Pacific Dunes - what Barney calls a hit and run.  Since this is destination golf, typical for groups, does anyone know if this is feasible?

Thanks,

Mike

There are plenty of singles at Bandon. I don't think that will be a problem...

I played the first 18 of the day with my fiance and the second on my own with no problems.

There were several groups on Opening Day at Old Macdonald consisting of a twosome paired with two singles.

The only down side is that you don't have much control over who you get to play with!

If you can hit and run it near a holiday then you probably have no trouble.  You can probably either get paired with someone or even get out on your own.

Sunday morning we teed off at Pacific Dunes, followed by a single, a twosome, another twosome, and then a threesome or something like that.

We let the single play through, but the first twosome was this annoying group from Washington and the ranger advised us to make them wait it out.

We saw several singles or twosomes out throughout the week other than Opening Day at Old Mac.

Play later in the afternoon - you might get paired with a caddy who's playing.  He/she will know the course and many are really interesting folks

Would a single be advised to stay at the resort or would you be able to save a some bucks by staying somewhere in town?  I'm sure to reserve a tee time, I would need to stay but if it is as easy to get on as described here it seems like a single would be ok to stay off-site.

This is promising since I'll be in Seattle through Sept. 3rd.  Labor Day might be the ticket.

Bogey,
Last winter I talked my brother into playing Bandon. We decided to wait for least semi-ideal conditions. Two weeks late we had a window, called up got a afternoon tee time one day out at BD and then PD the following morning. We will probably do the same this winter for BT and OM. I'm just a phone call away.

Dale- I've done both and I would recommend staying at the resort.  You can save some money by staying offsite but its much more convenient to stay there.  Bandon is also one of the friendliest places anywhere so if you stay in town you'll miss out on talking shop with other golf-crazies after your rounds.

The rooms are nice, the food is great and the staff is super-friendly.  You never really feel like a single when you're there.
