A pro shot 25 on back 9 in tourney yesterday
« on: May 26, 2010, 11:33:58 AM »
He birdied every hole except the two eagles on the par-5's.  11 under par on the back 9?  :o
Jamie Kureluk did just that yesterday in the RBC Insurance Alberta Open yesterday.

There are a bunch of players that follow a 54 philosophy. Annika notably one of them. I guess they need to revise their thinking to 50.

The good news is: he has room for improvement; he only eagled 2 of the 3 par 5's on that nine!

Will someone shoot 59 or lower in a major in 2010?   The Old Course could be the place with calm weather.  I hope not but it is very possible the way the professionals are golfing their balls this year!  Would Ladbroke's take a bet on 59?

Here is the scorecard for the Les Furber course at 6836 yds. The card shows par 72, but they played it as a 71.

That's nothing.  I could shoot 25 on the first hole!

Alberta, May, hmmm.  Were they playing it down or lift, clean and cheat?

Speaking of Ladbrokes,

You can get 6-1 on Tiger winning at Pebble....Probably the highest odds he's had in 12 years.  and he's won about 1 of every three Majors he's teed it up in, not to mention his 15 stroke victory there.........Hmmmmmmm.........

It is generally forgotten that Geiberger's 59 at Memphis' Colonial CC was shot under those rules.

Gary-They might take it but could you imagine their exposure as the odds would have to be ridiculous. Maybe they could lay some off to Lloyds of London.  ;)

No.

The lowest score ever in a men's Major is 63.  Oddly enough, it has been done about 20 times.  I keep thinking each year that it will finally topple and we'll see a 62.

59?

No.

No.

Evan Beirne who plays college golf for St. Johns and recently won the Connecticut State Golf Assn. Russ Palmer stroke play championship shot 58 in a casual round at New Haven CC. He made 13 birdies and 5 pars on some tough Willie Park Jr. greens. Though not a tournament round pretty strong regardless. The previous course record was 62.

I know it has never been done before but I can't see what will prevent very low scoring at the Open.   If the conditions are anything like they were at Wentworth what defence does the OC have?   With the new breed of player and balls available I think 59 will happen in July.    28/31   59

If Jamie K who shot 25 on the back nine had shot 25 on the front nine the pressure would have been so intense on his second nine he would have been very lucky to shoot 40.

This type of scoring was what was missing from the equation for the rollback argument to have legs. Now that the scores are going lower, with the added distance of courses, for the powers that be, to stick with the belief that the ball is not a problem, or, that distance gains are not occurring, is gross negligence.

Very low scoring and 59 in a Major are two different things.  The balls that are available are the same as the balls that were available the last time the Open Championship was held there, and I'm not so sure the new breed of player (Schwarzel, Watney, Ishikawa, McIlroy) is any different than the old breed (Woods, Mickelson, Els, Goosen).

If you think there will be a 59, you must think it is a lock that someone betters 63.  Maybe this is the year.

The Golf Gods don't allow 62's in majors. Between Tiger's putt a couple of years ago, and Nick Price's at ANGC years ago, I am convinced that there is a cosmic reason there have been no 62's .
