Olde Mill in Hillsville, VA

I understand the Maples family has renovated this hidden gem off the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Has anyone been up to see it?

I've played Olde Mill a number of times but wasn't aware of any renovation.  It's been four or five years since I visited.

A good friend, who's an accomplished player (US Am, etc.) says Olde Mill is his favorite place to play, bar none.  A few years back, we were asked to rate the top five public-access golf courses in western Virginia; he placed it squarely in first, ahead of both The Cascades and Primland.  My rating wasn't quite so generous, but the property is truly beautiful and Ellis Maples routed a very solid design.

The site gets heavy dew every morning and the course is typically is fantastic shape.

The opening shots on each nine are as photogenic as any you'll see.

I'm interested to hear information about a redo.  The 18th hole, I heard, was slated for a complete overhaul.

We are planning a trip to Primland next year.  We always play three courses.  We were set on Primland and Ballyhack but were debating the third course in the rotation.  Olde Mill (formerly Groundhog Mountain) had received rave reviews from a lot of my
friends.  When we found out about the renovation it was a done deal.  It is only 9 miles from Primland.  A great one-two punch!
Here is some more detailed info I found on the work being done...

Anybody have any idea what the rates at Olde Mill are?  Couldn't find any indication on the website.

I'll be in the area in mid-July; if someone plays there in the meantime, please update this thread with your opinions of the course.

Wade, I played Groundhog Mt. 7-8 years ago, and the memory is pretty fuzzy--how would you compare Olde Mill to Ballyhack?  I am pretty sure I'd play another round at Ballyhack (but I am rather smitten).......

I loved Olde Mill. It has been 20 years since I have played but we used to play a collegiate event there each year.

Always thought the front nine was as much fun as any I had played and the tee shot on #10 would make anyone tighten up a bit.

If in the area you should certainly make it a point to play Groundhog.
