Wot? NO Dornoch photies?
« on: May 19, 2010, 06:51:29 PM »
C'mon you boys,
it's been four days now and no evidence of last weekend's frolics?
OR
Is this a case of what happens in Dornoch, STAYS in Dornoch???

I've heard some of the tales, but Goddammit, we need ASSPICS! 8)

cheers,
FBD.
The White River runs dark through the heart of the Town,
Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.

Be patient fellas, most of us only got home last night or this morning!

I have asspics aplenty of all participants, just sorting them out now and will post them soonish.

The event was awesome and the weather was sensational.

I'm on the train back to London as I write this... let me just say that Rihc did an excellent job of organizing this get together. He and David Tepper did everything in their power to make sure we all had a good time and played with as many different partners as possible.

The weather was PERFECT! The courses were in fine form and a good time was definitely had by all.

We played Dornoch Championship & Struie on Sunday, Dornoch Championship & Golspie on Monday, and Dornoch Championship & Brora on Tuesday... all mostly under glorious sunshine.

Major kudos must go out to Stan and Julie Dodd who hosted our group for a home cooked dinner on Monday and Tuesday evenings. There is not a more welcoming and pleasant couple on the planet. Keep living the dream guys... we love 'ya!

Scott must have taken 400 photos! I'm sure there are ass pics galore to come.

These GCA'ers are the best. I can't wait for the next get together.

After these events I am always reminded of what a great group of folks on this site.
Golfing with these kindred spirits is good for the soul.
Mike thanks for the kind words.  Julie and I love to have you folks about.

One highlight

Alright, here goes!

London > Dornoch roadtrip asspics.

Day 1: Alwoodley

One of many crushed drives Andrew Mitchell hit during the trip, playing from the tips (Nick Leefe's suggestion) it only reached the fairway by 20 feet. We were a long way back!

Mike Whitaker flushes his approach to the 12th

Nick Leefe shows us how it's done on #16

Day 2: The Renaissance Club

Andrew Mitchell flushes another one...

Simon Holt splashes out of a bunker on the 13th

Day 3: Crail (Balcomie)

Mark Pearce took inspiration from Freddie's shoes at The Masters

To be honest, watching Andrew flush drive after drive after drive got a bit boring ;D

Mark's hiking boots actually came into their own on the walks from 6 to 7 and 18 to the clubhouse!

The sole asspic of yours truly taken on the trip

Andrew Mitchell on 17. Guess the result

Day 4: Dornoch Championship and Dornoch Struie

Moi, Andrew and Rich before hostilities began at Royal Dornoch.

Rich and Andrew walk down the chute to the 3rd tee

Ian Dickson hits the drive of the day on 13 of the Struie

Stan Dodd on Struie, where he had yet another round of 36 points

Day 5: Dornoch Championship and Golspie

David Tepper escapes from the front right cavern on the 6th at Dornoch

Steady Stan had two even to handicap rounds at Golspie as well

Niall Carlton walked the final few holes at Golspie with us and borrowed Robin Hiseman's big stick on 18

Day 6: Brora (36 holes)

Robin Hiseman, James Boon, Niall and Moi basking in the sun at Brora

Robin gets creative with a sand shot

James on the 11th tee

Niall - the king of leg action - lets it rip at the 17th

The locals watch Ian Dickson tee off on the 10th

Mike Whitaker - always smiling - strokes a putt on 18.

Scott,

Nice to see my swing is so damn slow there is no blur when I'm in full flow...

I took about 200 pics of Spey Valley, Dornoch and Brora which I've edited down to about 60 of each, however the only ones suitable for this thread are as follows...

John tees off on the 18th at Royal Dornoch...

One of Brora's young greenkeepers who just turned away as I snapped him. Well Marty, you did ask for ass pics...

Scott teeing off on 12 at Brora complete with the quintessential Caravans and Sheep...

Niall also on 12 at Brora...

Scott's approach to the last at Brora thanks to the ball spotting ability of the guy in the 3rd floor window of the adjacent apartments

Cheers,

James

See! Now THAT's what I'm talkin' about!!!

I am more and more falling under the spell of Dornoch. The town, the Course, the views. Omigod, how could Ross have ever dragged himself away from the whole bucolic idyll?

Back again for my next fix in a couple of weeks. Yippee!

BUT,
I hope he doesn't wear that HAT!!

Now, that is one ugly meaufeau of a chapeau.... ;)

That hat was a permanent fixture on Stan's head every time he played.  I felt I could hardly criticise my host's headwear, clearly you will not be as backwards at coming forward  :D
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

Aaahh Crail.  The tee shot to that 7th fairway, looks like a very wide fairway, but for the right handed player with a strong zephyr off the ocean and that stone wall right, fasten your seat belts, it can be very scary.

"Do I aim way left and risk pulling down that steep slope over there, or do I risk blocking one out into the adjoining (OOB) meadow?"

Is this tee shot off on a dangerous line?  Or is that Mark's "old reliable" draw in action?

Andrew,
it was hanging in the hallway when I was up there. I asked if some eedjit had left it behind! He said he saw it and thought I'd like one too! Americans, I ask you....
Niall,
the big fella needs help from no hat to play a pretty steady game. Ole' low'n'slow himself...kicks my ass EVERY time!
It must be re-iterated however, that The Dodds are GREAT hosts! (otherwise I'm sleeping in the car next week! ;D)

Looks and sounds like you guys had a blast. Care to tell us about any late nites in pubs? Anyone get their face licked???

cheers,
FBD.

David and Lauren Tepper were wonderful hosts the first night, Stan and Julie Dodd couldn't have been more hospitable on Monday and Tuesday (Stan is an awesome cook, by the way!). Rich organised the golf like a pro and made sure we all played with each other. I bagged at least one game with everyone except for Herschel.

The guy at Luigi cracked me up when John Lyon ordered ANOTHER beer and we asked if he had carded John, because he was only 15. "I don't really care for rules or regulations," he deadpanned and spun on his heels to go get the beer.

When any of you are next at Dornoch eating in the clubhouse, order the Lonely Burger. In fact, order two.

And if Mark Pearce ever offers to buy you your first ever dram of Malt, don't let him buy you a Laphroaig. Ouch!

Great exchange after a round at Dornoch -
Unnamed GCAer: Robin, how many stableford points did I score?
Robin: Let's put it this way, you're old enough to vote, but not old enough to drink beer in America.
Unnanmed GCAer: 20?
Robin: Yep, two Bo Dereks.

Boys,
You may not know...that hat is from the Donald Ross Grateful Deads Collection at Dornoch.
Martin, it is being given as a tee prize for the Captains Gala next weekend.
You may see Ricky Fowler in one at The Open.

Probably my best drive of the round, though it could be said that competition for that accolade wasn't strong!
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Robin, me, Andrew, Stan and Mike at the Dodds after a brilliant prawn and crab pasta and a few sherberts.

And, the piece de resistance...
