A Traditional GB Sporty Golf Course in Northumberland
« on: May 19, 2010, 11:00:28 AM »

Those of you who rush around all the days of your lives, here is a small out of the way course set on the Northumberland coast some 8 miles South from Alnwick on the A1068. Alnwick being roughly mid way on the A1 between Newcastle Upon Tyne and Berwick on Tweed.

The town is nearly of the quality of a picture post card town with its own ruin Castle (albeit reasonable well preserved). The little town is formed within a “U” shaped curve on the River Coquet.

To those not in a rush it is worth a stay and a game if driving from Scotland to England. I attach a few details from their web site which might interest some.

Green Fees (web site is http://www.warkworthgolfclub.com/ )

Mon – Friday   £15.00 reduces to £12  if playing with a Members
Sat – Sunday  £20,99 reduces to £15  if playing with a Members

If travelling with family and friends I feel that you would enjoy a break at Warkworth

Enjoy

Melvyn

My wife and I drove from Whitley Bay to North Berwick in 2005 en route to the Open at St Andrews.  I wish we had known about this lovely crisp looking links course.  We stopped briefly at the castle, it's a beauty.  Thanks for posting this, Melvyn, very cool dunes and links.

Ally, I was thinking that second photo looks a lot like Rye!

Thank you, Melvyn. Just lovely. A reasonable man, destined to live in that town and play only that golf course for all of his days, might do well to consider himself blessed.

16 cars in the car park the day Google Earth snapped their image.

In the US you look for the green areas to find a course with Google Earth. Apparently in Scotland, you look for the brown areas.

Green greens, brown fairways, tan roughs!

Would this bump Bamburgh or Dunstanburgh off the local play list?

Someone needs to tell Google. I entered Warkworth, England and Google Earth took me to someplace in the middle of the island. So, when I tried Warkworth, Scotland, it took me right there. I see when I zoom out, it is indeed south of the border.

The course has a beautiful setting and wonderful colours.
Had never heard of this OTM links by the North Sea.
Golf fees look very good as well.

Thanks

The castle also has a fine location and can't help but imagine hot oil and arrows coming down from the castle.

Depends what you want.  I think it beats Dunstanburgh and, for golf, Bamburgh.  Bamburgh, however, wins for beauty.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Try Warkworth :)

Unfortunately GE wants to take you to Warkworth, NZ, even when viewing the correct general area.  For being a product of a search company, GE's search feature sucks ass.

Mark, thanks for the comparisons.
