This is sad, especially with the NCAAs so close. He was a promoted of Amatuer golf and let Pete Dye and David Stone make Honors such a special place. I wish his family and those close to him the best.

I can say this without any risk of overstatement:  Mr. Lupton was one of he finest gentlemen and greatest benefactors of not only golf, but of the entire city of Chattanooga that many will ever see in their lives.  He was a great man who impacted so many lives for the better; he will be missed by many.

I just played there with a former club champ and he was telling what a great person Mr Lupton was. He also was saying that he was not doing well. I am sorry to hear he passed and sorry I never had an opportunity to meet him. He built a terrific course that was a real pleasure to play.

Many of the things he did to rejuvinate downtown Chattanooga will never be fully known. I hope next year we can have The Dixie Cup in Chattanooga and the ones attending can enjoy the downtown festivities and possibly even The Honors.
