Del Paso CC, Sacremento

If anyone knows anything about this course, please share.

If someone has pictures and/or hole descriptions, that would be great as well.

Thanks,
Jordan

An old private course that was completelly renovated a couple of years ago by Kyle Phillips in a style akin to Southern Hills (according to Phillips).

There was a fairly lengthy article about the re-design of Del Paso in GolfWorld magazine's annual architecture issue about 2-3 years ago (maybe longer!). It is possible the article might still be available on the magazine's website.

I think Jed Peters may have played the new course. I have not yet, the private club is pretty exclusive. The old course held a Women's Open and some pre senior tour events and was a fair parkland layout with no stand out holes. Lots of dirt moved for the new layout but alot of old trees were saved.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Thank you!  Feel free to keep chiming in, a friend is playing a US Open sectional there soon and I started this thread for him.  One more step to Pebble...

Any advise on how to play the holes or putt the greens?

Would practice rounds be hard to set up given its exclusiveness?

Thanks.

I've played it and wrote a fairly detailed thread on it.

I found this, but couldn't find my original thread?

So its a beast then?

15-18 looks and sounds nuts.

What are the greens like?

From the back it's going to be long and hard, even for you. From the middle tees it's a little more playable.

The greens are sloped but I don't remember a lot of undulation.  I suspect they will run about 10.

I would like to know how they are doing there.  It was a club in disarray with financial problems and an old declining membership.  After they fixed it up, they reinvigorated the membership and brought in a bunch of new members.
It was a financial success but this was before the financial melt down and Sacramento has been hit hard.

1 green par 5

1 and 2, par 5 and 3

2 green from the side

4 green long par 5

6 green par 4

10 approach short par 4

11 par 4

12 par 3

18 par 4. 460 into the wind with a tough tee shot and intimidating second. Really stunning hole in person.

Matt -

I assume those bunkers are relatively easy to play from, specifically the fairway ones ...

And do you know the reason why the flags were at half mast?

Memorial Day, I'd wager.

Mike,
Not really. They're round but not shallow. And they're kinda soft too.

Jed,
Thanks. :)

Jordan, can you tweak the spelling in your title for search engine purposes?  Thanks.
