Reports from the Travis - ***Ben Hayes wins ***
« on: May 16, 2010, 09:39:11 AM »
Here is my report from the first day of the Travis.  The course record was equaled - 6-under 67.  (Remember, GCGC is par-73.)

GCA notes, Michael Wharton-Palmer played great and made one of the weekend flights of 8, but lost in the first round the next day to the number one seed.  He also gets best dress award for a great dark black watch-ish plaid pair of slacks and a deep cobalt blue shirt.  Thanks also to Pat Mucci for a fascinating afternoon.  I had a ball walking the last two with you and meeting your friends.

Day 2 - A member makes the semis!  If he wins he'll be the first member to win since Billy Edwards in 1970.  Also, two USC Trojans made the other semi.

What is "FEDORA?"  Not a golf site!

Is Jamie Lovemark one of the Trojans, or has he graduated?  I think he was a freshman at the 2007 Walker Cup.

Jay Flemma,

That's the competitive course record, not the course record.

Jay Flemma,

That's the competitive course record, not the course record.

Fortunately, Mother Nature smiled on the 100th Travis Invitational as the weather in past years has seen more than its share of cool, rainy conditions.

Congratulations to all the contestants, the members and the winners.

The Saturday night dinner was a special treat.  The fellow sitting next to me said, "he'll remember this night for the rest of his life"

Hi Bill.  Lovemark turned pro last year.  Otherwise, he would have been a senior right now at USC.  He missed out on a tour card at Q-school and has been jumping around this season with some good finishes internationally.  Last fall, he lost in a playoff in the PGA Tour to Troy Matteson.  Although not at the Travis, he is hopefully on his way to a great career.

Another Trojan, Brad Shaw lost to Hayes in the semis...they were roommates, teammates, and best friends.
