Page 37 "In the United States, golf courses are becoming more and more perfect. American golfers owe a debt of gratitude to Charles Blair Macdonald, who was not only the first United States Amateur Champion but the father of golf architecture."

Page 50 "Square, flat greens and geometrical bunkers have not only been an eyesore upon the whole landscape, but have detracted from the infinite variety of play which is the heritage of the game."

No.

See his principles and his many writings about the importance of natural appearance of a golf course.  

MacDonald's courses appeared more natural than what commonly existed before.

MacKenzie could only be viewed as condradicting himself here,
if one believed that MacKenzie viewed square, flat greens and geometrical bunkers as being perfect,
which I'm sure he didn't.

How did you draw the conclusion that CBM designed square, flat greens and geometrical bunkers ?
