The only intriguing question in my mind is will Old Mac surplant Sand Hills as GW's #1 modern.  It could well happen.

JC

Time will tell on that one but personally I think SH still holds that mantle.

How important is local knowledge when playing Old Mac or Pac Dunes?  If you were going out without a caddy to play the courses how much would you miss that insight when playing the course?

Jerry

That comes down to personal choice. If one was worried about a score they may choose a caddy outright - personally discovering a course is part of the fun for mine. Each to their own.

We didn't have an official caddy at PD and survived quite well with about a dozen or so choice comments from the two loopers for the other players in our 4-some.. very similar to what you pick up watching the gca videos running on the resort tv channel for BD & PD..

We used our caddy on OM mostly for yardages, confirming wind and elevation impacts between 1-3 clubs at times that day, he had a neat hand drawn layout of each hole.. but talking with Jim Urbina around the course topo map and seeing his slide show was only topped by talking with George Bahto as most influential to local knowledge, and it also didn't hurt to have read through "The Evangelist of Golf"..

The most disconcerting on the three courses we played (BT, OM & PD) was watching our playing partners refusing to adopt the ground game within 50 yards.. and whining about how they couldn't hold the greens.. oh well.. ::)
