Stockholm GC (Kevinge)

This looks to be a good course.  It's from the firm of Colt,Alison and Morrison and I believe this was mainly Morrison's responsibility; the least known of the trio.

A while back on GCA, Ran gave us some stats on where "hits" on GCA were originating.  There were plenty from Scandanavia (Denmark in particular, I think).  So I'm hoping these pics might get some Scandanavian lurkers to post.

PS I don't understand Swedish, but I think the George Maywood mentioned in the bottom photo was Colt's constructor at Swinley Forest.

Officially it is known as Stockholms Golf Klubb, and perhaps Royal Stockholm Golf Klubb...not 100% sure of the latter.

Saw a B&W picture of the course in Svensk Golf or Golf Digest Sverige years ago and thought...wow...it was a really stunning course.  It looks like there has been major bunker loss.

Played several rounds there including a tournament about 10 years ago.  It the course closest to Stockholm center, and the city has reclaimed some of the golf course for high-rise apts.  When I played it the course was par-69, and I understood the course was going to lose more land.

It is a fun course, especially in Scandinavia as the typical  course there is narrow, tree lined, with the standard rock outcroppings thrown in to irritate...this course has none of these features, and I do remember some of the greens being a challenge.

The bunkers are now grass faced.

The third hole was as challenging as it looks in the photo.

The driving range is an aqua affair, hitting into a tongue of the lake across the road from the clubhouse.

What I can interpret from the bottom with my backwoods Svenska is George Maywood was the planner and construction supervisor.

I might be going to Stockholm in the autumn. Should I take my golf clubs? Is it easy to get on courses in Sweden?

Hello Mark!
Do take your clubs. I think we have a member from Stockholm who has shown phototours from Bro Hof Slott, which was supposed to became the Swedish Ryder Cup bid.

There are plenty of courses around Stockholm and they are almost all accessible.

Best regards from the other side of the Baltic see,
Ville

Mark,

Donal O'Ceallaigh is a member at Stockholm GK. Neighboring Djursholm GK is another classic course dating from 1931. There are many more courses, usually access to Golf Courses in Sweden is easy but it's allways good to book a tee time.

I'll be going to Stockholm GK and Djursholm GK in July to play some hickory golf, will let you know my opinion afterwards.

Greetings from Hamburg

Christoph

Thank you. Talking of the Baltic, I shall be working in Gdansk in late July, but there will be no free time for golf. Is it Amber Golf there?

I think Amber is a bit towards Germany.
Tony Ristola´s Sand Valley ia bout 50 km towards Warsaw.
I´ll be there for vacation in July. I´ll report how Sand Valley plays.

No work in Finland?

Christoph,

I may have given the wrong impression with some of my past posts.  I'm actually a member of Bro-Bålsta GK which is just outside Stockholm city. Will you be visiting Bro-Bålsta GK? There are several members that are very enthusiastic hickory golfers. I will be around in July so feel free to contact me for a game.

I might be going to Stockholm in the autumn. Should I take my golf clubs? Is it easy to get on courses in Sweden?

Mark,

When you say autumn, are you thinking of September or October? Many courses will close in mid- to late-October.
It's fairly easy to get on courses. I live very close to Bro-Hof Slott (venue for this years Scandinavian Masters) and anytime I've driven by, it doesn't look too busy. I'm also only about 20 minutes from Kungsängen and 35 minutes from Arlandastad (both former venues for the Scandinavian Masters). I would love to invite you as a guest to Bro-Bålsta GK. Just contact me before you arrive.

Dónal.

Donal,

Thank you. Nothing is confirmed yet - funding in the arts is very hit and miss in these financially difficult times. I'll keep you posted. Mark.

Donal,

It is my fault - I think you only said that you know Stockholm GK so I got that wrong - The German Ladies Hickory Champion 2009, Britta Nord, invited me and for a round of Hickory golf at Bro-Balsta on wednesday 21st (or thursday 22nd) of July preceding the Swedish Hickory Championship - would be great meeting you there if you are around - I also know some of the other hickory players at Bro-Balsta ...I am looking very much forward also playing that course and wonder how that compares to golf in Ireland ;-)

Greetings,

Christoph
