Tour Stop Discussion Threads
« on: May 04, 2010, 05:27:59 PM »
Curious as to why we do not have a weekly discussion thread on the courses being played at that time on the PGA, Champions and European Tours.  Great way to discuss the architectural merits (or lack thereof) of courses that will be getting air time that week, and would add a bit of insight to the viewing process.

For example, this week's thread would focus on Sawgrass and Royal Park in Turin, Italy (no Champions events).  On Monday the "commissioner" would start a new thread on the TPC San Antonio, RTJ Golf Trail at Ross Bridge and Pula GC (Mallorca).

Has this been done on this board before?  Thoughts?

Commissioner Nilsen, this is a terrific idea.  The obvious benefit for us is that we can all share in a discussion about GCA with some limited or even complete opportunities to observe the comments later that week/weekend on the tube.  I would be thrilled to learn more about the European Tour courses, as we Americans get a little cloistered sometimes. And though most of the TPC courses will cure insomnia, some will not, as is the case in point, Sawgrass this weekend.

Bravo.

Nope, never been done each week.

Yup, sounds like a great idea.

I love the Tour Championship, especially when it is playing firm with lots of wind.

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

I'm pretty sure Sawgrass has a hole with an island green.

Why not, instead of making a new thread each week, we just make the one thread a perpetual thread and changes in Title every week based on the courses being played? That would tie up less server space for Ran...

Now I'm irritated though, I thought of this same idea a week or two ago and just never posted anything about it. Dang it, now I can't take credit for anything.

Good idea Sven.  Shame they don't play on more interesting courses though (particularly the European Tour).
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

If this is going to be a weekly sticky, a useful addition might be to note any other golf on tv that week.  Anyone who hasn't seen Pine Valley or Royal Hague may well want to be advised of any Shell WWOG re-runs.

It's a great idea-Detailed discussions about some of the great courses they play.  Plus a good excuse to slag off some of the dogtracks they play...too bad they only show putting.... ;)

Last week's finishing holes remind me of two different women.  Quail Hollow #18 would be Sophia Loren.  There are a lot of curves and subtleties that you could explore forever.  Real Club de Golf de Sevilla would be Pam Anderson.  Augmentation (lake) with a hero carry that might play well for a short time, but isn't a keeper.
