Irish Course - Laytown and Bettystown, new book
« on: April 27, 2010, 03:57:00 PM »
My friend and colleague, Brian Keogh of the Irish Sun and the Irish golf desk, (www.irishgolfdesk), has written the centenary history of Laytown and Bettystown.  It's called "Out of Bent and Sand."

Has anyone played there?  Anyone have pics?  Can we start a discussion of the course?

I have a friend who is a member and am looking forward to getting a chance to play there this year. I believe that Des Smyth and some other notable players came through the club.

The book is available to read online at,

I have played it several times and it's a fun course. It's short by modern standards, but there are some tough holes and the rough can be a bit wild.

Thanks for the link, guys.  I'm going to have to add it to the rotation when I go to Ireland!

Jay,

Have a look at the feature interview with Whitley & Phinney,

http://golfclubatlas.com/feature-interview/interviewwhitleyphinney

They discuss the 18th hole at L&B.

I played it a few years back but cannot remember it too vividly. I min thing that sticks in my head was extremely narrow fairways aand knee high rough. your best travelling 15 mins further north to baltray and seapoint.
