Sean,
A tricky question, because I find it very difficult to rank courses. However, I'll have a go. It's worth pointing out that when we played Silloth last weekend it was an almost completely still day. None of my previous games there have had less than a two club wind and that makes it a whole lot more challenging and, possibly, reduces the fun quotient a little.
I'd say Silloth would be pretty much my ideal home course. It's not quite as much fun as Elie or Kington but it is more challenging and I suspect I might find the shortness of Elie/Kington a little disappointing if I were playing there every week, after a while. It's also not quite as quirky, though retaining enough quirk to make it charming.
I do think it's probably a better course than Rye, but I feel I'd owe Rye another visit before stating that for certain. It's at least as good, probably better, than Deal (which I loved enough that I'm considering speaking to Chappers about membership). I'm not as big a North Berwick fan as many but purely as a course (rather than for this history and extreme quirk) it's a better course (as with Deal, the best holes aren't as good, the weak ones far stronger).
I find it very difficult to compare links to inland courses but I'd put Ganton maybe Alwoodley, certainly Muirfield, Dornoch (from what I remember, I must get back) and RSG ahead of Silloth. It occurs to me that Silloth is as good or better than Cruden Bay (again, the stretch from 3-6 at CB is epic, Silloth has nothing to match it but nor does it have anything to match 8-11, or 15-18 at CB).
So for a peer set I'd suggest Rye, Deal, Littlestone, Cruden Bay and North Berwick and I would have it as one of the leaders in that group. That's in the round.
For fun, rather than as a potential home course, it would fall short of Elie and Kington and possibly North Berwick and Cruden Bay, but not by a very long way.
