Rounds for Research - Raleigh NC Triangle GCA Contingent?
« on: April 06, 2010, 07:28:55 PM »
There's some great courses within driving distance and a number of Raleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill GCA members here.

Wondering if anyone would like to join together to bid on foursomes in the Rounds For Research auction? http://rounds4research.com/

Thinking that we could support a great cause and create an excuse to get together for outings to hard to access clubs (Old Town in Winston-Salem, Raleigh CC, etc...)

Well, I'd think about it for Old Town. But it depends on how much cost we are talking about. I'd fine it really difficult to come off a good deal of money, because, sorry, but turf research is not high on my list of 'charities.' Just being honest.

So my thinking was to get a commitment from folks on which course(s) they want to target and to arrive at a maximum bid we all feel comfortable with.

Based on what I saw last year:
-  A couple of the most exclusive / hard to access courses went for a premium over the guest fee.
- Many other good / great courses went for no more than the accompanied guest fee. Some foursome packages (like my club) had little demand and went for equivalent of a single's greens fee.

Well, lets see if more people start posting interest. There are maybe half a dozen courses on that list that I would pay premium price for. Just out of curiosity, what are the accompanied/unaccompanied guest fees at Old Town?

Golfcourse.com says the fee (assuming accompanied) is between 50 & 75.

If we can get on for $75 a man, I'll play. Much higher than that, and its less likely.

Chip: I'd consider it for the right place, in particular I've been itching to play Raleigh CC for a while and could probably help round out a group if you needed it.  Let me know if you run across anything promising within reason, great find.

Thanks Brian!

How about the following plan:

Could all the RDU folks please suggest the courses from the rounds for research website they'd be interested in bidding on (if the price is right).

I will consolidate the list and track those auctions.

As we get closer to auction close, I'll provide updates.

For those we have a shot at getting, will look to obtain commitments (agreement to participate if we win and max $ bid)  from those interested.

Ok Guys;

Here's what I'm seeing:

Raleigh CC (2 lots): $250/$275
Cape Fear (2): $325
Eagle Point (1): $750
Old Town (2): $200
Hasentree (1): $275
Old Chatham (1): $425

I wish that Cape Fear & Eagle Point were both reasonable. Would make for a fun 36 Hole day / road trip.

From my perspective, it seems that Old Town is the only one worth pursuing. The requirement is to play on a Sat or Sun after 1pm.

Please send me a private message to confirm your commitment to bid on the auction and the max your willing/able to pay for a place in the foursome.

If more than 3 are interested, I'll include the first 3 who reply whose max bid can help us get the slot. (example, if the item goes off for $240 ($60 per) and one person says max of $50, I'd go to the next 3 folks on the list who committed to pay at least $60 per)

Thanks,
Chip

If Old Town can be had for a rate in the $50-75 range, I'm in for sure. Put me down. Beyond $75, I'm out.

Turned out that both rounds at Old Town went for more than the $75 / man ceiling we set.
