Machrihanish -- front nine, which begins with three par 4s, has a short, almost target-like par 3 4th hole, then concludes with five straight par 4s of pretty remarkable variety.

Perhaps to counter such an odd nine, the course's back nine goes 5-3-5-4-4-3-3 before concluding with two fairly ordinary par 4s. The bakc-to-back par 3s on the back nine (holes 15 and 16) are the two best par 3s on the course.

Boat of Garten's wonderful back nine, with a bunch of quirky and challenging par 4s and a solitary par 3 (16th).

Golf House Club (Elie) has solitary par 3s on each nine!

Not that I've seen it but doesn't the Country Club in Brookline have one P3 16th on the B9 ?

Blackwolf Run - River, #4 and that's all.

The current thread made me think of it.

Only on the composite back nine...

And to add one of my own, Tedesco!!

Three par 3s on the front (3, 7, 8) and one on the back (13).  Not that we are great, but we are close to "really good"!
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

My two best examples from my travels are already mentioned in Rock Creek and Blackwolf Run River, but my third is lesser known but also really good: South Bend Country Club (Indiana). The 4th is the only three on the front, and the 5th the only par five. The back has 3 par threes and 2 par fives for a 71 total.

County Louth

Ian,

County Louth has four par-3's..... 5,7,15,17

However, Good courses in Ireland that only have one include:

Portmarnock (7,12,15)
The Island (9,13,16)... Although this is getting designed out at the moment by Hawtree with anew Par-3 fourth hole

I'll think if there are others...

I mentioned it once on a thread on which the purpose was to find out what course goes the longest without a par 3...

That would be the Navy Course, Seal Beach, CA.

Not particularly great, but worth noting (maybe).

Alex,

How many holes does it go?

If you look at my previous post, The Island starts with eight par fours...

I'm sure there are courses with bigger gaps though...

In addition to those already mentioned how about...

Woodhall Spa's back nine has its only par 3 at the 12th.
Notts (Hollinwell) back nine has its only only par 3 at the 13th
Saunton East's front nine has its only par 3 at the 5th
Askernish's front nine has its only par 3 at the 2nd

Cheers,

James

No doubt. Navy's first par 3 is the ninth, though the third and sixth are par 5s. I guess it's a tie.  :)

The other Island, Little Island(Cork GC) has one par three, 13th, on the back nine.

Jeff,

Elie, par 70, 2 par 3's the 3rd and 11th...

On the Old Course... the 11th isn't a par 3, it's just a nice place to make a 5.

Charlotte CC has one par three on the front (#3).  It also has an atypical makeup of 3-13-2, which I have not seen often (if ever).  13 par fours is a lot, but I really never notice it.

Golf House Club (Elie) has solitary par 3s on each nine!

But it does have 16 par 4s (ranging from 256 to 460 yards) to make up for only two par 3s!  Now there's an eccentric layout.

No argument at all.   Our golf tastes are very similar.

Favorite things there.....

....the completely different par 3s  (#3, 225? #11, 120 yards right on the water, looked like the pin was on the beach!)

.... the telescope at the first tee - from a German U-boat?   ;D

.... the marker poles on at least five blind tee shots.  I was absolutely striping my tee balls that day and thought I was going to hit at least four of them!

Truly an everyday course, few are more fun.
